I didn't have any problem with Jake Lloyd who acted like a kid which is, y'know, what the character was.

A lot of people hate kids, it's as simple as that. Over at EWWWWW.com they're claiming that the kid Boba Fett from AOTC was "whiny". Sorry, didn't happen. I guess Hayden stink somehow smears on everyone in the film. The military used to call this "collateral damage".

Whiny? That kid (Daniel Logan) barely had any dialogue in AOTC.

While kids are often a mixed bag in entertainment, I'm reminded of something a friend of mine once posted. Sci-fi fans seem to think that everyone was born at the age of 18 and can't stand the idea of kids in movies and shows.

I remember some people in the early-to-mid 90s saying that DS9 sucked because Commander Sisko had a teenage son living on the station with him and all the subplots revolving around fathering a kid "took away" from the show. Back then, mind you, a whole lot of people were still smarting from all the Wesley hate on TNG and kids and teens on STAR TREK were sort of a touchy subject. But there was some Jake Sisko hate out there and I never understood it. Cirroc Lofton was a pretty decent kid actor all things considered and the relationship between the two Siskos helped add a realistic and welcome dynamic to a STAR TREK series.

Yea, the Jake Sisko hate never made any sense. Wesley's problem was that he was used as a Dues Ex Machina several times a season, outdoing the adults at their own jobs. Jake was never used in that way, he was only used as a kid doing kid things, having kid relationships and as a means of making Sisko a Single Father.

Jar Jar, I think would've been fine, if he'd just been toned down a notch or two, and not bombarded us with his "Meesa" accent. A less annoying speech pattern or less of his speech pattern would've gone a long ways towards making the character less annoying.

I wanted to go yesterday, but, I've had a bad cold, and now my ears are clogged up, so, hopefully I'll be able to hear properly by next weekend and go then.

I didn't know that about the Jake Sisko hate but I'm not surprised. Jake was nothing like Wesley, he was just a normal kid. THe father/son relationship between him and Ben did a lot for Ben's character.

You know, I've heard Best reprise the Jar Jar character on Robot Chicken and during an episode of the Colbert Report. When used in that comic atmosphere, the Jar Jar character can actually be pretty funny.

Jake Sisko was a normal kid (first only one in Trek), while Wesley was a one-in-a-billion type child prodigy. Almost everyone could easily relate to Jake, while Wes was more alien and exotic than most aliens of the week were.

Plus, he was whiny.

I am not sure if this has been posted here yet (and if not, it should have been!) but RedLetterMedia carefully remastered their original Phantom Menace review and rereleased it in stunning 3D!

There is also a Riff Trax style commentary track by Plinkett for folks to listen to while watching the movie!

Oh my god. Now I remember why I don't go to cinemas on weekends.
I was gonna go on Tuesday afternoon when it's dead, but now I have to work then so today was the only time I could really go. Good god, if you're taking your children to the movies HAVE SOME FUCKING CONTROL OVER THEM!

I mean I don't have kids, but I think if I did before I took to them to the movies I'd tell the general rules of No Talking
"Daddy, is he a Jedi?"
"Daddy, is that the man with the purple lightsabre?"
"Daddy, what happened to Darth Maul?"
"Daddy, what's that planet called?"

Worst of all when the subtitles for Sulbuba and Watto came on "Daddy, what's he saying?" Jesus, they can't even read??

Constantly getting up out their seats, unable to sit still, dropping their 3D glasses all the time, dropping drink bottles, rustling with sweets, going for a piss like every 10 minutes.
I know they're just kids and are not to know, but the fact that the parents just sit there and do nothing. Eurgh it drove me mad



......... anyway Yeah it was fun, its hardly my favourite movie ever but still enjoyable. The Pod Race and the final battle montage definitely a highlight to see on the big screen again. The main problem I'd give the film is that R2D2 is the only character you really care about, the others are all somewhat wooden.


A little girl a few seats down from me did seem to get plenty of big giggles from Jar Jar Binks' pratfalls anyway, so fair enough



Also, question- at what points does Keira Knightley actually play the Queen? Is that her when she's in her black feather outfit near the start?

I actually agree with some of his points although I view the films as one whole saga.

Went Friday night with my youngest daughter, who like me is a complete nut for both "Star" franchises. We had a blast as she had not seen TPM in a theater since she was 5.

And like I stated earlier, it's occasionally fun to watch a small child's reaction to something like STAR WARS or STAR TREK. When they're having a blast and you can see the big goofy smile on their face it makes you feel good inside. STAR WARS helps connect different generations. It's designed for young and old with a little bit of something for everybody.

Well, he got the challenging part right. The prequels challenged moviegoers who aren't huge Star Wars nerds to understand the indecipherable plot and to care for the wooden, boring, robotic characters.

Truly an endurance test.
