The Phantom Menace 3D Release

If I could go in costume I'd go as Darth Sidious(Episode I-era). No makeup or contact lenses would be needed, only a dark robe with a cowl and a silver Sith neck clasp. Sidious/Palpatine/the Emperor has always been one of my two or three favorite characters from the SW universe.

I wish I had the robe and clasp. I could pull it off.

That's kind of what I'm doing. I don't have a clasp but i have a red Saber and I'm wearing all black underneath. I think it will be fine. My friend is going to Mara Jade and her daughter will be a Jawa

Make sure to take some pictures and post 'em. I wanna see how badass your getup is. I hope your plans work out. :)

I'll have to check it out. Knowing the critics they'll still bitch after 13 long years that the film itself is deeply flawed and not very good...but they'll praise the 3-D conversion technology.

Figures.

"My son eventually hanged himself in the bathroom of a gas station, but the Star Wars movies will be around forever..."

  :guffaw:

Doesn't change the fact that if Avatar hadn't become a huge hit, 3D Star Wars wouldn't be happening.

Weren't the 3D conversions being worked on way before Avatar hit big?

No, no it's the same review they had for the Phantom Menace just converted to 3-D LOL

I only watched the first minute or so, but I think they added an extra pizza roll being thrown at the viewer for a 3D effect.

Pizza rolls and the militant movie nerd.

A marriage made in valve-clogging, sexless heaven.

I went and saw it earlier today. Found the 3D impressive (especially pod race and Darth Maul fight scenes), but for me - it was about making me feel happier. And it did the job.

But is Lucas going to make further changes to the original trilogy for their 3D release? Thats whats bothering me! :cardie:

Imagine if he shocked us all by releasing the remastered, but UNALTERED originals? In both 3D and 2D?

Yeah, ANH's domestic "lifetime gross" would possibly even surpass Avatar's if that happened. :)

/unrealistic wishful thinking

BoxofficeMojo predicts $24 million opening weekend for TPM, which would put it in a second place, behind romantic comedy The Vow. This could mean my early prediction was right on the money (oh yeah, pun intended :D )

I just came back from seeing it.

Would have preferred to see it in 2D. If this trend continues I may have to get contacts because perching those things over your glasses sucks. Best 3D part: the text in the beginning.

I was the only person who waited to the very end of the credits to hear Darth Vader breathing, SILLY PEOPLE !!

The Duel of Fates was thrilling!! And Qui Gon still fascinates. As usual felt like crying over Padme and her future fate :(

George Lucas may be a money whore when it comes to milking his STAR WARS franchise, but at least they guy isn't the raging, inconsiderate and egotistical asshole that James Cameron is.

Oh, I agree. I do think Lucas has his own ego issues (as would anybody who has that much money and power), but if he doesn't get along with actors it's because he comes off as a nerdy guy who doesn't have the best social skills (hence the stilted dialogue and awkward scenes that are meant to be sincere). But Cameron is intentionally an asshole. I'd imagine with the amount of love heaped on him by his fans, he sees no need to treat anybody as anything other than a subordinate.

I don't think that's a fair summary of Cameron. He's certainly a hard taskmaster on set but not an asshole in the Michael Bay league. Look at all the actors who've returned to work with him on multiple occasions- Bill Paxton, Michael Biehn, Arnie, Sigourney Weaver, Linda Hamilton (who also married him and still speaks highly of him, as does his other ex-wife, Kathryn Bigelow), Lance Henrikson and others.
