I really enjoyed Billy Budd, but Moby-Dick did not do it for me. Queequeg was awesome, though.Never read Moby-Dick other than in excerpts, but from his similarly themed novellas Billy Budd and Benito Cereno, I agree that his prose is twice as long (at least) as it ought to be. I think Melville's best work--like Bartleby--lies outside of his nautical fiction.
