The Passing of Majel Roddenberry

Talk about scooping the news. This didn't start hitting my fan lists until a couple hours ago!

She will be missed.

Not to be rude or anything...the news sucks...but there's already a thread about this in the main forum...

I don't know, this could be a good place to discuss everyone's favorite appearances of her different characters within the books.

Forrest J. Ackerman, Bettie Page and now this.. sorry to hear about it, but she seems to have led a very exciting and productive life. What more can anybody ask for?

Which would basically mean Number One, Christine Chapel, M'Ress, Lwaxana, and Starfleet Computer Voice. Plus a bunch of TAS guest characters, but I don't know if any of them have turned up in the lit. If they have, it's probably in something by Ward & Dilmore. (She also played Amanda Grayson in "Yesteryear," but I don't think that should count.)

Very sad news. :(

My favorite Majel-character lit moments would have to include Lwaxana kicking Q's ass in Q-in-Law and Number One giving the Enterprise computer her own voice in The Rift, both by PAD. Also, Chapel walking in on a conversation between Dr. "Bones" McCoy and Dr. "Beast" McCoy in the first Star Trek/X-Men comic, the entirety of KRAD's The Ceremony of Innocence is Drowned, and any and all of the hints that Morgan Primus bore resemblance to other certain Trek characters in New Frontier.

RIP, Majel. Although not as influential as Spock or Kirk, she left an indelible impression with her roles, esp. as the Enterprise computer voice. And as the Great Bird's widow, zealously guarded her late husband's legacy. So her final performance is as the ship's computer voice, once again, in Abrams movie. A fitting epitaph. -- RR

Crap. I met her once along with Gene. They were both nice.

And, no, it wasn't a big significant moment.

At least I doubt it was for them.

I hope she went easy.

She will be sadly missed.

I have come up with a link to lit for her..
NF: Didnt Picard note something 'familiar' about Morgan. And when she was merged with The Excals computer, Calloun mentioned she always sounded like the computer....

EDIT: Sorry Turtletrekker, didnt see you posted the same above..

I hope there will be time to get a tribute into the next Star Trek Magazine issue. If not, I'm sure one will appear in the following issue.

RIP.

The newest issue (#15) is getting ready to hit stands, if it hasn't started already (I got my subscriber's copy last weekend), but I imagine Editor-san is already making notes for #16.

16 is already on its way through approval, but the plan is to incorporate something this issue in the news, and something more substantial next.

But for those of us (me) who just frequent this forum, the posting of the news was appreciated. I don't have time to look at all the threads in every forum, and I forget to look at the sidebar to the right... :(

I was pretty shocked when I heard about this.
As for great Lit moments for her characters, my only real expeirence with them is M'Ress and Primus (ok technically isn't Majel, but it's pretty clear that's who she's supposed to be) in New Frontier, and the Ceremony of Innocence is Drowned. I enjoyed pretty much all of those stories.

I think it's a tribute to Majel that her influence in ST was so far-reaching that she even "played" a character who never appeared onscreen. (Well, it could be a tribute to PAD's inability to resist an in-joke, but I choose to interpret it the other way.)

This reminds me of something I've been wanting to ask. Has it ever been confirmed 100% that she is Number One. I've seen people on this and other sites referring to her as such, but I don't remember it ever actually being stated in the books.

Very very sad news indeed :(
I met her and got her autograph at a con in Boston back in the early 80's.
I will cherish her signed photo even more now.
May she now live among the stars with Gene for eternity :)
