THE ORVILLE Season Three...

Him and Adrianne Palicki got divorced, and so a lot of people think that means they won't be able to work together and one of them is going to leave the show.
Kind of makes me think of House a little bit, where two of the actors, Jesse Spencer and Jennifer Morrison, got together while their characters were together on the show, but they ended up breaking up in real life, while their characters were still a couple. I can'timagine how awkward that must have been.
On Game of Thrones, Bronn and Cersei never shared a scene together because Jerome Flynn and Lena Headey had a really bad breakup. I don't they were even on the same set together.

I just figured we would have heard about it by now if one of them was leaving.
How long before the season started did we hear Halston Sage was leaving?

Sage's departure was not officially announced prior to season 2 at all. After Jessica Szohr's casting was announced February 2018, the first speculation that Hlaston Sage was leaving was in April 2018 when filming photos revealed Szohr was playing a Xeleyan security officer. Then by June it became known Sage was filming a movie at the same time much of season 2 of The Orville was filming, culminating with the fact that Sage wasn't with the rest of the cast at Comic Con that July. Even then, we were still only speculating, and indeed many assumed the fact Alara was in the trailer for season 2 was proof positive she wasn't leaving the show.

Didn't Grimes basically lead the panel for the cast at NY Comicon? It would seem to suggest he was sticking around.

I don't think Grimes is leaving because he is a popular character and they already lost one popular character in Alara. Plus he more any of the characters other than Mercer and Yaphit are perfect fits for the kind of humor McFarland usually likes to do. He is the only character who is perfect fit for a joke like getting your leg cut off.

If one of the two left, the obvious answer would be Palicki - if only because everyone (even fans of the show) agree that the Ed and Kelly thing is getting tiresome, and it's unclear what they'd do with the character if Ed finally gets over her.

Or if they jump the Moonlighting shark and put them together.

Scott Grimes is literally doing nothing else right now according to IMDB. Why are people in such a hurry to presume he left the show?

1. IMDb is user contributed, so it's not necessarily a reflection of what he may or may not have coming.

2. Why does he have to be doing anything? He could leave and not have work lined up for any number of reasons.

Again, the NYCC clips I have seen show Grimes far more active and engaged than Palicki. If I was going to pick one of the two who would leave the show, it would be her.

Yeah, this. Plus if you think about it, Grimes' character is often integral to the stories and is part of the core group.

Might be Kelly. The parallel universe thing still allows a number of possibilities and given that she and her newly married guy sorta divorced already, that's in all likelihood going to cause problems. Or he left and she stayed. Or they're adding someone else to the main cast because the cast was never big enough to begin with. Or Isaac gets a girlfriend, like how Twiki got Teena:

That's most likely it but why speculate when the show could still throw any number of curveballs? (Partly cuz it's fun...)

No, we do not. Emphatically, we do not. I assume that you do, but the gulf between you and "everyone" is...a universe.

Palicki's character is central to the show. She's one of the two leads. The show is built on the relationship between the Mercers. Losing Kelly is something the series would struggle to recover from.

Gordon is a supporting character. He's comic relief. It took the writers nearly two years to come up with a decent story for him. He's replaceable in the same way that Alara was.

And BTW, yeah - the Gordon story was better than anything TNG ever came up with for Geordi LaForge. :guffaw:.

Thank you. You said it so much better than me.

I sure don't mind seeing them paired off with others for a while. I enjoyed Ed with Janel before it all went South. I love that scene between him and Kelly when he goes to tell her. Even if they are not "together" in the sense right now, they still can show a lot of intimacy. She knows him and she has his back. I love that relationship. I also love when they disagree on something and yell at each other. There was less of that in season 2 but I'm sure one day they will stumble about something they have different opinions on. And they sparkle together.

I'm honestly not someone who usually ships all the people in all TV shows. But I love this couple, whether it is a real couple or not.

Also, not sure if everyone is following Tom Costantino on Twitter, but he said regarding this discussion that the Orville is not doing musical chairs and I have no reason not to believe him.
