The presence of Dr Finn in these pictures basically confirms the theory that Alara's return to Xelaya is caused by her weakening strengths, which requires her to return to her home planet for some period of time

Here's hoping we'll see Alara again in S3 (after some deserving R&R with her parents :):).[/SPOILER]

Maybe Elephant Boy is an attempted replacement for Alara at security who doesn't make it through the episode. That would be nice.

Yup. "The Orville" is just a mid-to-low level ship in the PU fleet and despite the fine quality of its bridge officers, most of its crew are not the creme of the crop fresh graduates of Union Point. Ed once remarked that "Into the Fold" that the ship needs better people to man its crew.

Obviously, staffing issues remain a problem in S2 and
when Alara can no longer functions, other security officers (like the Elephant Boy) - based on his red shirt - presumably are not up to the task to replace her. That's probably why they eventually have to find another Xelayan to replace Alara

Well, I don't like how many issues the series will have to deal with each season that Seth has now:

  • Once a year Bortus has to have a ceremonial piss, which we don't get to see.
  • Alara, even if she returns, once a year will need to go home for regain her strength.
  • And the ship uses fuel, as established in the last episode, so are they simply going to skip the re-fueling scenes?

We haven't seen any Yaphit :( I liked him WAAAAY better than Dann lol
We've seen him, he just hasn't spoken yet. Dunno if Norm was busy or they just didn't need the character. Either way, they showed him in the engine room, working on the central console in one of the two episodes. maybe the last one, when Bortus came looking for new material?

Elephant Boy looks like he's fresh to the ship - "This ship is totally sick" - which is why I suspect this is a job interview.

Oh... When he's dealing with the shady porn dealer who speaks Jabba-ese? Lol, I must've missed him

Btw, that guy is dealing in potentially hazardous contraband. He should get busted just as much as Bortus

With all the strange secrecy around her departure, I think there's some story arc built around her absent time (and return?) that they don't want to spoil. I have a theory about what it is too.

Yeah, that kind of bugged me. I would think he would be just as responsible for what happened to the ship as Bortus, but we didn't hear about him being punished at all.

I took it to be their version of dilithium crystals....they were going to fill the cargo bay and refine it at a later date/location. Dysonium/Dilithium toooooooooootally not the same thing with the numbers filed off, right?

Yeah, exactly that.

I have 3 favorites:
My top one is Alara, so yeah, it's sad she's leaving.
#2 is Dr. Finn
#3 is Isacc

The rest (including Seth Mcfarlane as Ed Mercer) I could take or leave.

TOS maybe, but not TNG which they are ... in the vein of, to put it politely.

Remember, Geordi told Scotty, "We re-composite the crystals while they're still inside the articulation frame", so they don't need to go get more. As I understand it.

So, the ship runs on a matter/anti matter core which can go without needing more fuel. One episode they ran at top warp and Geordi told them they'd only be able to sustain it for something like twelve hours before they'd have to stop and power down to recharge, not refuel.

Because the show resembles TNG in terms of production more than TOS, it does not at all follow that you can apply TNG's technobabble to it - they're not required to follow it.

Most of their stories are far more like TOS.

I like Isaac & he's well played by the actor, but currently, he is much more a plot device than an actual developing character. Until they have a storyline for him that goes beyond just studying the crew, & their families, he's not worth much. I'd lavish in a whole episode about Isaac, like Bortus has gotten more than one of, & then his stock might go up in my book

I like the relationship he's developing with Claire, Marcus and Tye though.

My three favorites (in order) are: Alara, Isaac, and Dr Finn.

Now that the first one is moving on, hopefully there won't be any further departures anytime soon. The show's quality wouldve changed dramatically if there's too many turnover in the main cast...

Have to agree with you on this one too. We know so little about Isaac, the Kaylons, and his home planet at this point. Hopefully there'll be an episode dealing about it soon....
