I just wanted something relating to Star Trek (like I do with any fandom related discussion forum), and since Stargazer was already in use, I just added the 101 behind it (after the underscore, since I wasn't sure if you were allowed to have spaces) to make it sound more like a college course.
It's a name that I use as an handle on websites like facebook, twitter, etc. It's a nickname that I've adopted from Star Trek, and when I use to cosplay (many years ago - I thought about using that as a page name). And the "Joel" part is my first name. One day - I'll make a new avatar, as Miller is from my old username.
My C.E. Evans was derived from the character Charles Evans from the original series Star Trek episode "Charlie X" plus my real original middle name Edwyn.
My first fanfic was written in mid 1980, after discovering local Trek fandom. It was set post-TMP, reflecting my introduction to Trek via the movie of December 1979. The main character of my fanfic was an Andorian.
There was a costume parade at the second Trek episode marathon I ever attended and I decided to try attempting an Andorian. When my story came out later the next year, people assumed I had been cosplaying Therin, the Andorian. The pic is from my makeup and wig test the weekend before the marathon.

You have no idea how much this scene in DSC cracked me up, all those decades later:

Many years ago, a friend saw Marina Sirtis at a con and told me I should cosplay as Deanna. I haven't (yet) but it's still in the back of my mind. And I love that she became a Commander.
What held you back from doing it? Could have been fun.
A lack of self-confidence. I always felt I had to lose weight first.
