News The ongoing next Star Trek movie thread

And DC comics history really doesn't have anything to do with live action. Comics are a completely different world. The COIE live action stuff is nothing more than a tv show adapting a popular comic - it did absolutely nothing whatsoever to 'reset everything'. It didn't even affect most of the ongoing DC live action productions.

It gave the 1990 Flash series a proper finale (Something it never had up until now. Barry and Christina got married.)

All of the new Star Treks have had new and interesting characters. I can even say about Discovery, the one I dislike the most.

Saru was awesome. They just were insistent on focusing on a character who sucked.

Lower Decks has Mariner who is awesome.

Picard had a few, Rios was pretty cool. Raffi was... acceptable. Shaw was awesome. Vadic was one of the better villains.

SNW is probably the weakest on good NEW characters, but despite sharing names with legacy characters, they're all basically nothing like those character so they're all kind of new.

What I would say is... it's actually not hard hard at all to have interesting characters AND continue forwards with a shared universe. A big protip would be... Stop. Fucking. Making. Prequels.

It doesn't need the nostalgia. I'm fine with that too, but it's totally doable to make a story that actually advances the world without relying on nostalgia. I just want to look and feel like the established universe. If I got a restaurant and order steak... I want steak. If they bring out chicken to me, i'm like, chicken is good and everything but that's not what I wanted.
Well, Ortegas is one of my favorite characters in newer Star Trek.

There was a certain Aenar on SNW that doesn't get enough love, he was probably one of the most interesting new characters of the streaming era. That he's not there anymore is a mistake in my opinion.

After SNW, I don't think there are many genuine opportunities for prequels anyway. A lost era show could be the final chance of something set earlier, but it's such a wide gap that the term prequel may not necessarily apply.

We should probably stop watching them then. Vote with the wallet as it were.
I kind of did. I begrudgingly watched Discovery... once. It's not getting repeat views.

SNW is better but it's also probably in the same boat. Once is probably enough.

Well, Ortegas is one of my favorite characters in newer Star Trek.

Ortegas is fine. I didn't really mention her because I feel like there's not a ton there. She hasn't really had a time to shine.

I am happy I was wrong about my first impression of Ortegas from before the show even aired. I took a look at her and was like, 100% sure her character was going to be "I'm a LESBIAN!" To date, I don't believe her sexuality has really been addressed at all. She's just... kinda cool pilot character. One downside to SNW is that everyone seems to have a super dark secret in their past... i'm hoping Oretegas does not. It's ok for some people to just be people.

Hemmer was cool, and yeah he should have been permanent.

There's plenty, especially since nuTrek doesn't even remotely care about anything already established. Mark my words, they will 100% do a new TOS show after SNW. They're already taking about a "Starfleet Origins" show (which... I mean... was ENT?), there's Lost Era (which seems like they're butchering in Section 31). They'll find a way to do something to shoehorn Spock in somewhere else.

Prodigy was the only one that tried to chart its own course, that lasted for about four episodes before going all in on nostalgia.

I can see Ortegas being the first character they let go or kill off. She has had zero character development since the show started, unlike every other character. She fought in the Klingon war (but didn't everyone?), she flies the ship (which anyone can do), and she makes smartass comments that Pike and the rest of the crew seem to find amusing for reasons that elude me.

I just don't think the money is there for anything too elaborate. Old Picard assets recycled into a 30-minute comedy? Maybe. Granted, there's a lot of talk.

We've already had a reboot with the Kelvin films.

How eager is Paramount to do it AGAIN?

So you’re trying to say that the SNW crew think smartass remarks are funny? Yeah, I already knew that.

Here’s something that I think is funny: that my dislike of a fictional character apparently gets on your nerves.

Doesn't get on my nerves at all. Something in the show eluded you and I was just trying to help you be less confused.

I know exactly what you were doing. And I’m content to let it drop before this conversation devolves into a contest to see who’s better at being condescending.
