Might as well share what I posted elsewhere.

Pre-Emptive Head Canon (if that's a thing): I don't normally do the Kelvin Films but this one jumped out at me, so here we go. I heard this from someone somewhere else, so I can't claim credit, but I've adopted it...

The Enterprise in the 2009 Film wasn't built, it was re-built. In the prequel movie, if it happens, the Enterprise will be under the command of Captain April. In order to only be a prequel to the Kelvin Films, it has to be set from 2233 onward.

So, the Kelvin Enterprise was older than we thought.

Considering that Star Trek 2009 began in 2233 with the destruction of the USS Kelvin and that movie story of this origin film takes place decades before that, we can have any story starting with the creation of the Federation in 2161.
It could even pay tribute to Enterprise, with Bakula.

Possibly, but if you postulate what we see in the Kelvin timeline, then all that had to originate somewhere, which leads me to belive THAT created timline extended both directions in history. Whether that's what they'll do I don't know.

I'm pretty sure they're gonna make a generic Trek prequel film, and fans are gonna worry a LOT more about timelines and stuff than the moviegoers who are used to endless concurrent, contradictory Batman films and whatnot.

There have been enough scripts that they could copy the development of TWOK and take the best parts of each of them and make a really great movie.

And have the added leeway of splitting ST4 into 2 films (a la MI: Dead Reckoning) to cover what it costs to pay the cast over both films. And just release the film within months of each other.

If this is accurate, it sounds like it will be a true reboot.

I'm totally down with it being another reboot, or a "the Kelvinverse was way more different than we ever thought" type-thing.

I suspect it'll be like that Bumblebee movie that 100% wasn't a prequel to Transformers.

Personally, I love all the X-Men movies even the "bad" ones, and was entertained by most of the rest. So sure, give him the reigns.

Really I mostly want a bonkers reboot and watch the fandom burst into flames. Again. Again.

Craig Mazin is responsible for both the Chernobyl mini series and The Last of Us series. Both pretty outstanding. Before these, he was mostly only responsible for a bunch of Scary Movie and Hangover sequels. Utter crap.

Maybe Kinberg is finally due. Maybe he isn't. I'll judge the final product.

I'm fine with an alternate timeline story that is explicitly announced as one (it's not an actual reboot unless we stop getting Prime stuff, just another timeline), I only take issue with people trying to say things are alternate timelines when they're not. It sounds like in this new continuity, Earth had a Starfleet before meeting the Vulcans? That's an interesting take.

A lot of people don’t know this but Simon Kinberg is responsible for the success of the Fox X-Men series. He pretty much ghost directed First Class, Days of Future Past and Apocalypse because the credited directors were having personal problems and would frequently disappear from the sets.
