The ones I love

In order of preference:
1. Star Trek The Motion Picture - I still watch it least once a year, often more.
2. Star Trek 2:The Wrath Of Khan - No explanation necessary.
3. Star Trek V:The Final Frontier - While the first third is deeply flawed, I love everything from the point Sybok takes command of the Enterprise onward.
4. Star Trek VII:First Contact - Still very enjoyable and a great mix of action, humor and terror.
5. Star Trek 4:The Voyage Home - The movie's biggest asset is that everyone has a great scene, it looks great and I still find myself enjoying every minute of it.
6. Star Trek 3:The Search For Spock - I feel I should rate this higher but it always looked cheaply made to me and sadly Robin Curtis' Saavik remains very disappointing (given the thankless task of replacing Kirstie Alley). I also feel it's got the worse title of a Trek film ever...

All the others range from okay (the two reboot movies) to "what were they thinking" (most of the Next Gen movies) to I absolutely hate it (Star Trek VI:TUC which I've always felt was just plain dumb from start to finish. The Spock/Valeris mind meld remains for me the single most unpleasant scene in all of Trek).

Wrath of Khan and First Contact are the only "great" ones IMO, because they successfully blend action with serious sci-fi themes, and since almost all Trek films wanted to be action films, this worked. 3, 6, even Generations are okay. 4 is funny but totally ridiculous. The worst ones are the original (totally unwatchable), Insurrection, Nemesis and the Abrams ones. So I'm kind of picky I guess :P I'd include 5 but it's that "it's so bad, it's good" and strangely watchable.

As a Trek fan I can't bring myself to hate any of of the movies, although I barely tolerate the reboots.

But if you'd ask me which one I'd like to watch right now, then I would choose one of these:
- ST: TMP
- ST 6: TUC.
- First Contact
- ST 2: TWOK
- ST 3: TSFS

The others all have their moments, but:
- ST 5, GEN and INS are too much like long, average filler episodes.
- With ST 4, you have to be in the mood for comedy.
- Nemesis stinks as a TNG goodbye. I don't get the Shinzon character. B4 is stupid, literally and figuratively.
