The Old Ones and the androids.

T'Girl

Vice Admiral
Admiral
in the TOS episode WALGMO we come upon Ruk, a android created by the race identified by Ruk as the Old Ones. Centuries before there had been a revolt in which the servants had killed the masters. But did the all the Old Ones die, or just the ones on Exo III? If Exo III wasn't the homeworld of the Old Ones, the revolt could have been an isolated incident, and Exo III a failed colony.

We've seen with Data, Lore and B-4 that Noonian Soong created his androids with a Human appearance, in fact his own appearance. When Doctor Lewis Zimmerman created the EMH, he also made them Human appearing. We saw with the duplicate of Kirk and Corby that the Old Ones machine can make a near exact external copy of an individual, while the Corby copy had much of his personality installed, the Kirk copy had only Kirk's memories, it was Corby's servant. Long ago Ruk could have been a duplicate of a Old One, but create as a servant.

The android Ruk was tall, had certain facial characteristics and appears to be based upon a physically powerful species.

Which brings us to Mister Homn, Mister Homn is the attendant to Lwaxana Troi. Mister Homn is tall, has certain facial characteristics and while not as broad in the shoulders as Ruk, easily possesses more strength that a Human Being.

Mister Homn's species is never identified, they could be one of the elder races in space, perhaps well distributed across the Federation and beyond, a species that has known many highs and lows over time.

I think it's an interesting correlation...particularly since both of those actors also played Lurch, the Addams family butler.

"Thank you for the drinks."

On the serious side, your theory makes sense. It's definitely possible.

The new "Star Trek 365" book mentions that the Old Ones are from Robert Bloch's H. P. Lovecraft fascination. Lovecraft's tales often referred to the "Old Ones".

Also, with the parallels between early TOS and "Forbidden Planet", I love the suggestion I once saw that the Old Ones were, in fact, an outpost of the Krell. Check out the doorways in "What Are Little Girls Made Of?"

You should also read the Pocket TNG novel, "Immortal Coil" for wonderful Soong/Questor/Ruk connections.

Slightly off subject, but have you ever read Bloch's Cthulhu stories? While not as good as Lovecraft's they are still interesting reading.

I should be getting my copy of "365" from Amazon is another month.

Is Mister Homn an Old One?

Given the similarities, I think it more likely that Mr. Homn is an android created to serve the Old Ones, just like Ruk.

With his original Old Ones gone, Homn simply found other Elderly Ones to serve...

I think Mr. Homn is either an old one or an android same as Ruk.

I like the Addams Family cross-over reference as well!

That's a fun speculation, T'Girl. It makes me wonder about Mrs. Troi too... :shifty: ;)
