Re: The OFFICIAL STNG-R discussion thread!

Official Announcement!

CBS is, in fact, returning to the original film negatives, a mother lode of material encompassing 25,000-plus reels of footage, and editing the episodes together precisely as they were when they originally aired between 1987 and 1994. Visual effects will not be upconverted from videotape, but instead will be recompositioned. The freshly cut film will ultimately be transferred to high definition with 7.1 DTS Master Audio. And all of the work is being done in conjunction with respected, longtime Star Trek figures Denise and Michael Okuda, who are on board as consultants.

Some good news! recomposited FX!

Re: The OFFICIAL STNG-R discussion thread!

I am SOOO happy that Mike and Denise Okuda are involved after all! :-)

Re: The OFFICIAL STNG-R discussion thread!

I was finally able to load the video. Even on my crappy work monitor the Enterprise going into warp looks awesome!

^Don't take this the wrong way, but I love you man!

Re: The OFFICIAL STNG-R discussion thread!

I guess this also answers the aspect ratio question.

Re: The OFFICIAL STNG-R discussion thread!

I guess I'm not the only one who will be walking around with a big fat grin on his face all day. This is so awesome.

Edit: The cover shot in the video has the ship the right way around.

Re: The OFFICIAL STNG-R discussion thread!

I feel like I jdid when I saw this trailer for the first time:

HOLY FLURKING SCHNITT!!

Not really. This is just an announcement video. The footage has just been made to fit it.

We know they've been "testing" a 16:9 version, however if they're being so faithful as to reuse the filmed model shots, I think it's fair to say they'll be faithful to the original aspect ratio. But I guess we'll see!

Looks fabulous, anyway. Just look at the detail through those windows! Wowzer! :cardie:

Awesome news. I'm somewhat torn on recompositing the old FX rather than creating new ones, I can see pro's and con's for both. I just hope they at least update the look of planets and matte paintings.

Meh...sort of? We only saw the CGI in 16:9, and that could have been framed that way only because the rest of the video was 16:9. The only character shot shown as 4:3.

Hey folks!!

Just a quick heads up that I've posted a full analysis and breakdown of the trailer over at TrekCore.com:

http://tng.trekcore.com/bluray/

There are side-by-side comparisons of the SD and HD shots as well as brand new HD Screencaps of the scenes shown in the trailer, and a mirror of the trailer if you haven't seen it yet! Enjoy!

That wasn't CGI Squiggy! I'm pretty sure that was the actual model shot! Damn, that was impressive. I know it's just two short scenes but it's world of difference to me. And I also believe this pretty much answers the aspect ratio question. it will be 4:3.

Re: The OFFICIAL STNG-R discussion thread!

Now I've seen it, I'm made up they are going for the original effects. The ILM stuff is fantastic, and still holds up today. Very much looking forward to January now!

Re: The OFFICIAL STNG-R discussion thread!

I'm pleasonately surprised how much green light this has already been given! I was expecting a simple anouncement about a "test" disc not full blown commitment + teaser trailer. Very good news that full seasons will be remastered not just select episodes.

I think we can now officially say the the "test" Blu ray is no longer a test but a preview!
