The Official and Very Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thread

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

The show had a few side characters that would pop up from time to time, like Torgo or Jack Perkins.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

So if you haven't donated yet, you should. Won't you?

I'm interested but i don't know if I'm ready to put real money up. I'm not sure how I feel about a new cast, if it was the original guys I'd be on board. Is anybody familiar with these guys?

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Patton once asked Joel and the cast about Gizmonics Institute at a San Diego Comic-Con appearance and wanted to know what the place actually did and how evil it might actually have been as an organization. Patton would be great as the head of Gizmonics who occasionally drops by to check on the Mads, see what they're up to and if they're conforming to company standards.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Patton Oswalt's name didn't ring a bell, so I performed a cursory search. Whoa! He's been in a LOT of stuff, both big budget and modest productions! Ah, so he was Doctor Dementor on "Kim Possible". And given he was curious about the inner workings of Gizmonic and Deep 13, yeah, it sounds like he would be intrigued.

Sincerely,

Bill

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

You never know. He just might show an interest if the price and other conditions are right and the producers want him to participate. And if not, hey, at least it was a good idea!

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

A lot of people are thinking it might very well be Oswaldt as the new henchman based on the shape of the silhouette. (I've also seen Andy Richter tossed about.) I sure wouldn't object to that casting.

Felicia Day is great. She's been on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse, Dr. Horrible, Eureka and an online showed called The Guild that she created. It's about a group of people in a World of Warcraft-like gaming group.

Jonah the new host has a stand-up show on Comedy Central that's pretty good. He is also on Chris Hardwick's Nerdist podcast.

I'm not really familiar with the two new bots, but I looked for their stand-up acts on YouTube and they're pretty good. The guy who is the new Tom Servo has a great bit on not being able to know how to be in a relationship but he can remember all the Disney Afternoon theme songs.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I'm really excited about what Baron Vaughn will bring to the series as a writer. He's got a wide range of nerdy interests coupled with a social and political awareness that addresses racial issues while staying positive and funny even when he goes some dark places. It's a tough tone to master but he makes it look easy.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I wouldn't mind seeing Andy Richter on the show as a regular or recurring character. His comedy chops on both the NBC and TBS Conan shows have been top-notch for over 20 years and he rarely fails to make me laugh. He'd bring a lot to any role on MST3K.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Turkey Day has been great this year, now it's on the classic Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Dropo: "My finger isn't tired!"

Crow: "Look out, nose!"

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

That was a real hoot, Joel recalling the vintage "letter reading" segments and then introducing a rather successful young woman who, as an 8 year old girl wrote one of those letters which Joel read on air. Didn't Joel note she was a software programmer? Anyway, besides that, he noted she was part of a band. For the closing fundraiser segment, she returned on camera and "filked" the MST3K "love theme", singing new lyrics reflecting the fundraiser and the series revival.

Sincerely,

Bill

Turkey Day is always fun to watch whether on cable TV or streamed online. Some of the best and funniest moments in MST3K history were part of the old Comedy Central Turkey Day marathons. I still miss those and the hilarious channel bumpers filmed for them.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Well, poo! I really hoped the KS would have reach the 3.3 million goal by the end of the weekend. (Actually, I hoped they could have reached it by the end of Thursday. But when they missed that, I thought surely they'd hit it by Sunday night.)

Yeah, I know these things usually hit a "lull" in the middle and then start to really climb near the end. But with just a week and a half to go, I honestly wonder if they'll reach that golden 5.5 mil', even with a "home stretch" surge. Of course, I'd love to be proven wrong.

Sincerely,

Bill

:) :) :) :) :) :) :techman:

And with that, we have a guaranteed winner no matter how many episodes get produced.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I'm really happy with this news. As soon as people suggested Patton was the silhouette, I knew in my heart of hearts that's what I wanted, but it seemed so unlikely.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I wanted him, but thought his asking price to appear would be too high for Joel and the producers to meet his demands. Now that he's onboard I'm smiling and told some of my friends about it. If there's one modern celebrity who "gets" MST3K and would have been a perfect fit for the series it's Patton Oswalt and I'm happy they got him to join the show!

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Well, I'm liking where this is going more and more. I admit that having more "known" celebrities does make me a little nervous--will it still have it's silly, unrehearsed charm?--but the promise of no CGI and the possibility of former cast showing up does make me happy.

Watched Teenagers from Outer Space the other day ("more like student council from outer space!"), still really enjoyed it. :D

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Teenagers From Outer Space is one of my favorite episodes. It has some of the most memorable riffs of the entire series and brings back memories of watching the show when I was still in high school.
