The Office- The Surplus

Samurai8472

Admiral
Admiral
With a $4,300 surplus to spend, the workers fight amongst themselves in order to get what they want. Andy and Angela go to Schrute Farms to work on wedding plans.

Always fun to see the weird Schrute farms

It was a good episode but Pam was being ridiculously unfair to Jim. Just like the time they showed her enjoying Jim and her ex fighting, sometimes they write her to be a complete bitch and quite unsympathetic.

They could have done so many things that could have been equally as funny but also sweet to make you like Jim and Pam together...just off the top of my head, what if Jim wanted the copier, she wanted the chairs, then at the last second she is the deciding vote and she changes side for her fiancee...so they get a copier and the next day she comes in to find Jim bought Pam a new chair.

They could have done anything. But her throwing away his desert and talking like that to Michael made her look like a twat.

I'm really tired of the Andy-Angela-Dwight triangle. It has far outstayed its welcome.

Dwight conning Angela into marrying him was very predictable but very hilarious :D

The Jim-Pam thing was interesting. I thought that it showed a healthy and loving conflict between them without an artificial barrier (moving to New York) and my GF thought that Pam was being a bitch for no reason. I thought that it reminded me of our relationship :D :D :D I didn't think throwing the dessert out was mean, I thought it was hilarious because she had this loving smile on her face at the time.

Yeah, I didn't get an angry vibe off of Pam except at the beginning. After that it just seemed that she was being very competitive.

Very funny episode, though.

I didn't sense any genuine malice in the Jim/Pam element of the show. It came across more as playful sparring.

WHAT was up with Oscar's shirt/tie combination?!?! Who decided those colors were good together? :p

The Jim-Pam stuff didn't ring true. She was a doormat for years with her fiancee, now suddenly she's Miss Assertive? And she looked really bad sucking up to Michael (who was his usual selfish, clueless self.)

Pam came across looking petty by throwing away the dessert.

Dunno, perhaps the show is jumping the shark for me. When Jim and Pam are dull and I'm bored with the other love triangle...

That's not an out-of-the-blue development though. Oscar has both publicly and (what he thought was) privately commented on her lack of assertiveness, as did Jim on a few occasions. They've been setting up her gradually growing more confident and assertive for almost two seasons now. It's just become more of an obvious plot point this season.

Pam's finally happily in love for the first time in her life, so she should definitely be more confident and assertive now.

Loved it.
I predicted the "real wedding" scenario the moment I saw that it wasn't Mose at the alter.

Love how the office came together and decided it better for Michael to not get the bonus then the office not get something at all. Gotcha.

Agreed, Angela has gone from mean to being outright evil, and Dwight has made Andy look great.

This season hasn't gotten off to a good start, and it's not Jim and Pam's fault, every other character including Micheal have become dull.

I think that's a great idea. A much nicer ending than what we got. Cheers.

It's funny...I consider the "everyone's-always-happy" kind of "care-bear" stories to be dull, predictable, un-funny, and trite. Real relationships have conflicts, and showing that in a TV show is what keeps it fresh and real.

Apparently I'm in the minority around here!

Wow. I had the exact same thoughts while I was watching this tonight, including having Jim buy Pam a chair.

I didn't think Pam was being too much of a bitch or petty or whatever, but I did think that she was very out of character in this episode. Especially when she was in the office with Michael. I know she was supposed to be acting all flirty, but I felt like the actress was going too far with it, so much so that it didn't feel like Pam acting flirty, it felt like another character entirely. It threw me off and made me conscious of her acting, which is never a good thing.

I thought this was one of the best episodes of the season, and I actually enjoyed seeing Jim and Pam in a little fight.

I think my favorite part was when Jim got back at Pam by having her make the copies for him at the end.

This was the first episode I've really enjoyed in a long time. The Jim/Pam thing was two people playing. It wasn't supposed to be taken so seriously, nor was it presented as a real conflict or "fight". Friends, whether they're in a relationship or not, like to mess with each other. It's fun.

The Dwangelandy triangle thing is played out though. That needs to end.
