The number one problem with America...

Cmdr Shepard

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
In my opinion, the biggest problem with the United States is that people no longer trust our government. The federal government has lost all of it's credibility, lies to the people, doesn't represent the people, and is far too powerful. Back in the 1700s and 1800s people trusted the government and the government didn't have all of these conspiracies they were performing against the American people. Our elected officials actually cared and were real people like you and me, not people like Obama or Bush or any of these clowns in Congress.

And to be honest, the people are partially responsible for this. Yes, it is important for the federal government to have some power, as to preserve the union, but we're hardly a union anymore, now we're just a single nation-state just like Russia or France. We're not a union or a confederation. People rely on the federal government for everything, instead of relying on their state governments.

The Constitution is a joke now, it's a wonderful document, but our own government only abides by it when it is convenient for them to do so. They have the CIA out there killing our own people simply because they "know too much," we have wiretapping and the Patriot Act. We have them keeping secrets from us and committing acts that are detrimental to the lives of Americans. We have horrible liberals who want to ban guns. We have abusive police forces and corrupt public officials who don't listen to the people. We need an honest government again, one that fully understands and respects the Constitution and that is by the people and for the people.

You know, there is a country called Canada not too far up north. Perhaps you'd be interested in moving over there? That's your first option.

Your only other option is to incite a revolution. Cause there is no other way to turn back the clock. Good luck with that.

Yeah, whatever.

In my experience there is also a baffling shortage of decent chicken salad.
WHAT?!?

... but we're hardly a union anymore, now we're just a single nation-state just like Russia or France ...

Russia is a federation of 83 provinces (oblasts), republics and other what-nots, such as territories (krais), autonomous districts (okrugs), and federal cities. France has 26 administrative regions, each with a local assembly. So not quite as centralised as you might believe.

I don't think the South is ever going to rise again -- too many vested interests.

The US is supposed to be 51 separate "federal" governments. One for each state and one for the federal gov.

Americans are generally good people.

The OP has identified mistrust in government as our biggest problem, but I see that kind of mistrust as the beginning of the solution. Most career politicians are corrupt and untrustworthy, but there are fresh young political faces out there who can make a positive difference. We just have to identify them and vote for them.

This is bollocks on so many levels.

We're really not that bad.
On the other hand, this is very much correct.

That is true, but its usually the minority who really knows what a politican is talking about, what his real plans are, or even care enough to listen. Majority of Americans while mostly good people are to busy with the same old same old to even care or notice. And are also really easily influenced when they have little understanding.

How I long for the good ol' days of the 19th century when Americans trusted their government and didn't have rebellions and civil wars and whatnot. Oh wait...

Nah. Oh, there are troubled spots and pockets of ignorance across the country, but Americans, in general, are decent, intelligent, hardworking people. I do agree with Colonel Green, though, our quality and quantity of chicken salad needs improvement.

The number one problem with America...

- People b*tching, but doing nothing to improve the situation.
- Americans giving money to every country, but America. We buy most of our products from other countries; give aid to Japan, Haiti, Africa and other places... yet almost nothing to cure homelessness here at home. Do other countries donate to help us? No. Oh, they LOAN the United States of America money, but we have to pay it back... unlike so many countries we have helped. It is time for America to put Americans first, then help others if we can.

If Americans would spend only $64.00 more each year on American products, we could put 200,000 Americans to work.

Well I agree with some of that. But the big help the small. A 200yr old country should have it shit together by now, we can't blame anybody but ourselves. Being one of the richest(irony right) countries in the world, we are in best place to send aid to countries, escpecially the ones we fucked up(japan).
Isolationist was possible back then, but its no longer possible now. The only way it could eventaully become possible. Would be to Create a fuison generator, find a clean energy source for cars. Learn to grow certain foods indoors. And reduce our population to susantable levels. and to start retreating out of the world's eyes.

Foreign aid does more to foster goodwill toward us than anything else we do. And if you think goodwill doesn't matter, just remember that next time we want a favorable trade deal or cooperation on strategic defense objectives.

^Favorable trade deals? Like the ones where we import more than we export, because those countries raise tariffs to better themselves? Or the trade deals that strangle our ability to compete fairly?

^^Japan has the world's third largest economy. Much of that is due to exports to America, yet they choke our ability to export to them.

You mean the deal where Americans get absurdly cheap foreign-made goods.

Once again, they're favorable in terms of giving us good prices for imports. It's American consumers that demand ever-cheaper goods, so I suggest you take it up with them. :)
