The next villain?

Shaky cam is like the Phantom Menace Palpatine. Everyone could see it staring straight into their faces, but nobody understood until it was too late.

Too late.

Alas! The tragedy!

...and the great villain for the novelisation: purple prose. Everyone, pray I never find a publisher, otherwise we're all doomed. Doomed, I say!!!!

which I always took as "yeah, but if we try and take credit for it it could cause a big legal fuss and we'll lose the rights to publish our comic"

No legal fuss at all. Everything created for the DC Comics' ST Series I is the property of Paramount, now-CBS. That includes Konom, no matter who created him.

The idea of a Klingon officer in Starfleet uniform possibly got some thinking happening during the planning for TNG, but then the idea also dates back to Kumara, of "Star Trek Log Seven", Kirk's Klingon exchange student roommate, originally created by Alan Dean Foster for a double episode script he wrote for the possible fourth season of TOS.

Konom, of course. They just never ever mention him. Just like how they never mentioned the Remans or the Enterprise NX-01.
