The next season expectations/speculation *possible spoilers*

^ That quote was also referring to the Battle at Demon's Run...and we saw that happen to him exactly as it was stated.

He didnt fall anywhere in demons run. He was there.... he didnt rise any higher than weve seen before, nor did it really look like it had any effect on him.

He thought his plan was successful to infiltrate the Brotherhood, rescue Amy and the baby (his highest) only to learn that he failed miserably. That is what the quote was referring to. It wasn't meant to be a literal fall and rise.

WHY did the TARDIS go kaplooey when the Doc regenerated? -possibly related to what I just wrote above? Rampant fan speculation, no on-screen explanation. I'm convinced it's all tied in somehow.

This may come across as insulting, but so be it.

This is an example of why TV writers can't "respect the audience's intelligence" and instead have to "spoon feed everyone".

The Tenth Doctor simply held back the regeneration for too long, and his regeneration was therefore much more violent than it should have been. That's it. There's nothing more. If you're expecting something more, you're going to be disappointed.

This isn't "rampant fan speculation". It IS the "on screen explanation". It just wasn't explained out loud, with words. It was explained with the totality of the scenario.

Oh, please.

The TARDIS went all kaplooey because they wanted some spectacle to go with the regeneration.

Fans still can't work out why the TARDIS went up in flames during 10th regen

@ Kelthaz:

What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

If we follow THAT logic, then the answer to "why did the Sixth Doctor regenerate?" is "because Colin Baker got fired" when really what people are looking for is more along the lines of "because the Rani shot down the TARDIS and Six suffered a fatal cerebral hermorrage from the impact".

* I would like to see how the Doctor acts as a married man. I imagine River won't be in every episode but it would still be fun to play with. Also, the marriage won't be forever, we already know, so the writers can enjoy playing with a married Doctor for awhile.

*I would LOVE to see Rose meet up with Married-Doc and River. Haha.

*I imagine there will be a loose build up to the season finale about that planet where the question is asked and the eleventh shall fall.

*I think it's 50/50 we might learn something new about the Silence -- but I think that we won't learn anything more about Eye Patch Lady. She was just in to be a bad guy and to do some things for the plot. She apparently wasn't meant to have any depth, motive, or character.

*I think Craig will appear. Just as RTD had a "New Earth" trillogy I think Moffat will end up with a "Craig" trillogy.

*I hope Season 7 is more like season 5 than 6. I thought 5 was the perfect blend of epic-arc and stand-alones telling a cohesive story. Season 6's arc was too muddled for my tastes and ultimately disappointing -- but on the other hand, I LOVED the stand alones. God Complex, The Doctor's Wife, the Girl who Waited...

*Potential lead up to a regeneration story, depending on if Smith is asked to stay and agrees or asked to leave or wants to leave.

*If Moffat is leaving with Smith then I'd expect one last episode playing with Weeping Angels. If Moffat is staying into season 8 then the Weeping Angels might go un-used in the toybox during the season.

*I, too, would like to see a modern version of the Ice Warriors. Them appearing in a new book is a paltry consolation. I don't expect them to return, though.

The way you chose your words makes me think you take it as a foregone conclusion that Matt is leaving after Series 7.

Why?

I don't see Matt going anywhere so soon.

I think Smith's contract runs up to Christmas 2013 though not 100% sure on that. I expect Moffat and Smith to leave in the 50th birthday year.

Smith's contract is rumored to be for three years, with an option for two more, which, with the split, would mean he could leave at the end of season 7, in early 2013, if he wished. However, Smith has talked on occasion about the existence of plans for the 50th-anniversary and his intention to be part of it, and he's also said that he feels like he's just getting started in the role and he has a way to go to really put a stamp on it like Tennant and Tom Baker. So I think that Smith would be likely to exercise the option for the additional two years, which would take him up to early 2015, unless Moffat leaves before then, in which case I expect that Smith will depart with Moffat. (Similar to Tennant/RTD.)

Wait, Pertwee Did 24 Stories in 6 Series, totaling 128 episodes, and he doesn't get the same credit? Hartnell outdid him in episodes and stories, barely, but, in half the seasons.

T. Baker was #1 at 173 episodes
W. Hartnell was #2 at 136 Episodes
J. Pertwee was #3 at 129 Episodes
And Troughton's only 2 episodes less

;)

Pertwee only had five seasons.

i want the fucking Ice Warriors back. anything else, i don't care.

Yeah...Moffat had created a major new monstor that ranks high with both.the Angels and the Silents...I want to see updated Ice Warriors and Yeti or Draconians...something familiar...or if not one or more of those a completely new Cyberman design to get us away from the Cybusman costumes....and if Ice Warriors lets see this nobile race the Doctor spoke of....use them well...make them legendary....or use the later history of the Cybermen from the extended Whoniverse where they had become guardians of the good...maybe that twist will help redeem them from castrated VOYAGER borg syndrome.

* I would like to see Rory and Amy and River continue as companions, but handled in a different fashion. As the only people who are aware the Doctor is still alive, it would be interesting to see them treated in a "subplot" sort of way, perhaps helping the Doctor from the shadows.
* I wouldn't want to see the Doctor work exclusively alone, but at the same time I don't really want him to have a series of one-off companions ("girl Friday of the week"). That would sort of lessen the "specialness" of having notable one-offs for Christmas specials and the like.
* More Madame Vastra and Jenny, please. Next Doctor-lite episode should be about them, and it should be the pilot for a series (Neve McIntosh has gone on record as being game for a spin-off, even with the make-up, so that's the main hurdle, IMO).
* Another Neil Gaiman episode, definitely. If not, I hope Moffat is able to recruit another big-name writer for the season to keep the trend going after Gaiman and Richard Curtis.
* That said, I'm hoping to see a bit more Moffat in the next season. It's fine that he's doing the "arc" episodes, as his job would require, but that hasn't given him a chance to deliver another "Blink" since he took over (Christmas Carol came close, but Weeping Angels and Sally Sparrow still trumped Dumbledore and flying sharks).
* Funny as it may sound, I'd like the next season to avoid any flashbacks to the past. Last season we had several (the roll-call of Doctors in Eleventh Hour, the slideshow of companions in Meanwhile in the TARDIS, etc), and this year we had things like Rose, Donna and Martha's "cameos" in Let's Kill Hitler and (very appropriately, I'm not complaining) the Brigadier reference this past week. I'd like to see none of that this next season, because Series 8, being the 50th anniversary season, is going to be loaded with it, guaranteed. I expect that will be a very "past-facing" season, so Series 7 should be dedicated to looking forward. For that reason I also advocate skipping the Daleks and Cybermen in Series 7, since we all know they'll play a role in Series 8, sight unseen. Let's get another Silence-like alien race established to Moffat can score the hat trick with the Silence and the Weeping Angels already under his belt.

Don't options normally go the other way? If the BBC wants him for another two years after the initial three they get him at the previously-negotiated price?

The twist for the Fall of the Eleventh is that it probably refers to a previous Doctor. I'm guessing McGann. That the answer to Doctor Who is related to previously unknown origins (e.g. unknown incarnations) that have been deleted from his mind.
