The next season expectations/speculation *possible spoilers*

It's far, far, far too obvious that "the fall of the 11th" means "the 11th Doctor". I'm certain it's a red herring. More like, "the fall of the 11th Legion" or something.

Which makes it likely to happen. Every single time that I've talked with my friends I've said "plot point x is too obvious/lame for Moffat to use," and ever single time he's done it.

So I think that Smith would be likely to exercise the option for the additional two years, which would take him up to early 2015, unless Moffat leaves before then, in which case I expect that Smith will depart with Moffat. (Similar to Tennant/RTD.)
Don't options normally go the other way? If the BBC wants him for another two years after the initial three they get him at the previously-negotiated price?
It depends on what kind of option it is -- and I admit I'm thinking of it in baseball terms, where in some cases it's the team that can exercise it (to force the player to stay), it's the player than can exercise it (to force the team to keep him), and sometimes it's a mutual option (either can exercise it).

* More Madame Vastra and Jenny, please. Next Doctor-lite episode should be about them, and it should be the pilot for a series (Neve McIntosh has gone on record as being game for a spin-off, even with the make-up, so that's the main hurdle, IMO).

No I think the main hurdle would be the BBC agreeing to fund it :)

I also wonder how much real potential there'd be for an actual series...maybe a series of specials like Sherlock at best.

Personally I would like to see the angels again their always fun. And I agree that there should be less flashback material, most of the season ending was just flashback and it took too much from the actual story.

Also, I would really like this coming season to have colour! I didn't like the weird filters they used most of this season (all green for the doctors wife all yellow for the god complex, and gray for most of the rest,) I found it pretty depressing and hope they use more normal lighting in this coming season.

While this is not a plot I think its almost inevitable the writers will exploit this season's "marriage" for laughs, showing the Doctor and River in a kind of Miss Piggy-Kermit relationship: she insisting that their married and he insisting they're not.

Exactly. In sports they use the terms "player option" & "team option" relating to option years.

I think I've seen "mutual option" as well.

I haven't read anywhere that Smith is going away anytime soon, so I'm not expecting that.

Agreed. In fact, I recall reading an interview where Smith said he would consider being the Doctor for at least four seasons to try to become the fans' favorite.

Despite rumors of Amy & Rory being signed for next year, I just don't see how that works in-story. Seems to me their storyline is done except maybe a guest appearance ala Martha in Series 4.

Disagree here. Although they clearly wrapped up their overall story, that doesn't necessarily mean they have to be written out of the show. Also bear in mind Amy is set to appear in the Christmas Special.

Which would make it the first time since "The Christmas Invasion" that a companion is actually around for the story, discounting Donna as she wasn't a companion by that point. However, we don't know what capacity Amy and/or Rory will be involved. It may jsut be a cameo, or a bookend.

I wouldn't mind seeing more of the Doctor/Amy/Rory combo, as I feel it was pretty balanced without being an actual ensemble type show. It was a welcome relief from all the time of it being the "Doctor +1" formula we've seen for the majority of the show.

Next up, sexy twins. :)

Rory and Amy were both in last year's Christmas Special "A Christmas Carol"?

true, but they were not in it alot and the Doctor spent most of his time with Abigail & Sardick, so even if Amy & Rory were in it, the Doctor was still with new characters, apart from The Christmas Invasion where he was the new character.

The End of Time, featuring Wilf as the companion for the first time, Donna not being with the Doctor.

Still it does seem that the Christmas specails tend to focus on new characters meeting the Doctor, even if TCI it was a new Doctor, TEOT being the only one to break the pattern.

This also seems to ring true for this years Christmas special, based on what little we know.

Especially with new amusing twist it has now.

Another thing I would like to see is John Barrowman return in series seven. I dunno if it already too late (have they started their filming blocks yet for seven?). Aside from Omega maybe returning this is the other thing that I would love to see. I dunno if it could happen this fast though.

I'm wondering if in series 7 the Doctor lite episode might not just be a standalone Amy/Rory episode where they encounter something odd on Earth and there's practically no actual Doctor involvment at all. Hell you could probably throw River into the mix as well and make it a family affair :)

No, they don't start filming until February, when the new studio is up and running.
