The next season expectations/speculation *possible spoilers*

Whofan

Fleet Captain
Yeah, it probably won't be for a year (With the exception of the Christmas special) but any expectations/speculation?

-Hopefully we get sort of a 'back to basics' approach a bit, with the Doctor presumed dead.

-With the Brig's death mentioned, it's possible there might be a similar mention for Sarah Jane (Although that might be in her own series).

-Probably going to see the Daleks again, although we sort of got them a bit last episode, but it was damaged and messed up. The Daleks should be credible again, since their 'victory' and redesign they've only escaped, trapped the Doctor, turned into stone and shot by River song, and damaged by the Doctor.

-Of course the name thing, the Silence and Madame Kovarian will have some role to play in this season. I also expect River to show up, as she still has to get the sonic and end up at the library. Might as well consider her a recurring character, sort of like the Brig and Jack.

-I expect we'll have a new companion as well at some point.

-There's still as Dorian mentioned the "Fall of the Eleventh" and the Question. I think the Fall of the Eleventh is of course going to be the end of Smith, and the regeneration into the Twelfth Doctor. If Smith is to regenerate, we can probably expect the new Doctor to be announced at some point in 2012. Also wouldn't mind if the regeneration is a bit different this time, without the Tenth's 'farewell' tour.

-Hopefully the ratings get a bit better. While Star Trek shows typically last only seven seasons, Doctor Who is of course a bit different. Of course if there is a cancellation it would probably be revived again at some point down the line.

-As for any other old enemies, we've already had Smith have plenty of run-ins with Cybermen (Although Closing Time was the only story in which they were the main bad guys). There are of course rumors of the Master returning, possibly as Simm. (He doesn't necesarilly need to regenerate either-Ainley's Master lasted through four different Doctors) I'm actually not too keen on Omega, we've already had a mad time lord founder in Rassilon, although Omega of course was more scientific than the society builder/ruler Rassilon was.
As for other aliens, I wouldn't mind the Zygons returning although shape-shifting aliens have been kind of overdone in Nuwho and it's spinoffs. I wouldn't mind seeing the Angels again, but hopefully in a better story.

-Fans still hope for a multi-Doctor story, but although Smith has really fit into the role of the Doctor I still think it's too soon for Tennant to do something. I personally would have Mcgann, the guy deserves another live-action appearence as the Doctor IMO.

-Of course I expect 'kisses to the past' here and there. Last season it was the many Hartnell (and some Troughton) cameos, this season it was Tennant's companions being mentioned as the holograms and in the finale. Well we'll see.

I hope for a back to basics approach. Basically half season 5 half season 6 approach because I liked the arc and season 6 had some shit stand alone episodes. Season 5 had some great stand alone episodes and had the arc popping up heavily midway.

I think the fall of the eleventh will happen, but I don't think this has anything to do with regeneration or Matt Smith leaving.

I am hoping we will find out why the Tardis exploded. It's a big unanswered plot point of season 5.

Some River. Yes! River as a full time companion for 1 or 2 episodes.

Daleks. A really really fucking amazing Daelk story from the Moff. I'm sure he has got one he has been waiting to tell. *cough* spider dalkes *cough*

Omega? We've talked about this dude since 2005.

The silence? I'm ok to take it or leave it with them. Can't remember if they're good or not anyway.

No more closed set episodes. No running around hotel rooms, or houses or kids bedrooms.

It's far, far, far too obvious that "the fall of the 11th" means "the 11th Doctor". I'm certain it's a red herring. More like, "the fall of the 11th Legion" or something.

There won't be a Sarah Jane death report- the team have said (at the press launch for this season) that they want viewers to just assume that SJS and the kids continue defending the Earth.

Yeah - how many of the Doctor's friends and enemies even know that this one's the Eleventh. It's as likely to be the 11th Cyber-Legion, since we already saw what happened to the 12th!

Although... I suspect it's something Moffat will wait to do when Matt decides to leave, which case it *might* refer to him - but even then it'll probably turn out to be something else!

I want to get some season 1 or Season 4 style episodes, kind of quirky but still very interesting. The show doesn't need to be this big epic convoluted mess. Take a step back, understand who your characters are and then develop them. I too wouldn't mind a Dalek story, since we haven't had one in a while. Also, if we see River again, hopefully she's kind of "off the hook" and we can see her for more than one episode at a time.

Are we getting a new full time companion next year, with cameos from Durvell and Gillan? It seems like Amy and Rory's story is done, so hopefully we get a new character. Also, there's been some talk here about maybe incorporating Torchwood and Captain Jack back with Doctor Who. While I have not seen Miracle Day (Don't have Starz), I wouldn't mind that. Crossovers, if done sporadically, aren't bad.

Jack appearing or not depends on John Barrowman's schedule next year. Both Moffat and Barrowman have made it clear that they would like Jack to appear alongside the 11th Doctor at some point, its just a matter of getting their work schedules to sync up.

I was under the impression that Gillan has signed for another series, but Darvill hasnt yet. If they are going to keep using Amy as a companion i'd certainly want Rory to come along with her. I can't speak for anyone else but i've certainly found it refreshing having a companion that doesnt think the Doctor is the bee's knees the whole time and questions his actions and decisions.

I'd actually like to see a bit less River next series. Series 6 seemed very River heavy in parts, a few references now and again and maybe a single episode would be more than enough River Song for me at the moment.

The main thing i would hope for Series 7 is that it isn't Matt Smiths final series. I still think Tennant left the role far too early, and having Matt bow out at the end of the next series would be far too soon as well in my opinion. Let's save the regeneration for series 10 or 11.

I suspect we will see River againm if only so she can learn his name, which may well be the theme of the next series after we found out that the question is Doctor Who?

I suspect we will see a new companion next series, even if the Ponds show up with River at some stage.

Well Moffat has said in interviews that he wanted to lower the Doctor's profile quite a bit, and the finale was clearly paving the way for that. He also said there will be more standalone episodes.

I don't know. It kinda felt to me like Moffat was putting an end to this Silence storyline for the most part, and setting the character off on a completely different course at the end.

Even the big question ("Doctor Who?") doesn't seem like something that was really meant to be answered-- it was more for effect than anything. Besides, how COULD you answer something like that?

Well yeah, but the Doctor was also supposed to DIE in this episode, so I wouldn't put too much stock in the "Fall of the Eleventh" thing either. ;)

I haven't read anywhere that Smith is going away anytime soon, so I'm not expecting that.
Despite rumors of Amy & Rory being signed for next year, I just don't see how that works in-story. Seems to me their storyline is done except maybe a guest appearance ala Martha in Series 4.
There's still a surprising amount of stuff left floating from this year to be worked out. The Silence is still around, Fall of the 11th, etc.
WHY did the TARDIS explode? Who did it? still to be resolved.
WHY did the TARDIS go kaplooey when the Doc regenerated? -possibly related to what I just wrote above? Rampant fan speculation, no on-screen explanation. I'm convinced it's all tied in somehow.
Should be an interesting year. It'll be hard for the Doc to live a 'quieter' life. Hope the green goat comes back, too.

Well I'm expecting to put a few more holes in the walls of my house with my head, but I'm hoping for fewer arc episodes. The standalones in the past season ranged from good to fantastic, so I'd love more of them. Moffat's style is fantastic for standalones, but I hate the style of his arcs. I think I'll just skip the arc episodes next season -- it'll save on drywall.

I'm also hoping to see Jack. It's been far too long since he's had an adventure with The Doctor and with no Torchwood next year he should have time to film an episode or two.

i want the fucking Ice Warriors back. anything else, i don't care.
The Ice Warriors are in Dan Abnett's new novel, the first Doctor Who Christmas novel from BBC Books -- The Silent Stars Go By. It's out in the UK now and out in the US in about six weeks.

I've refrained from putting holes in the wall with my head. Or any other part of me. But I have been getting some massive headaches from the amount of eye-rolling I've done.

I expect more of the same: A decent episode or two from someone other than Moffat, some average episodes from people other than Moffat and from Moffat himself, more "OMFG I'm so clever I can stick my head all the way up my arse" kind of stories. Shame. When he was penning one piece a year under RTD, I thought he was brilliant and looked forward to him taking over. As the show runner himself... I can't stand his writing.

On a Trek-related note, this is, oddly, how I felt about Ken Biller taking over Voyager at the end...

But having to be the show runner, having to decide the direction the show takes and write a substantial portion of the episodes is very different to popping in once a year writting a single script then buggering off, so Moffat in charge was always going to be very different from Moffat the hired gun (although take a look at most of his eps and you can see what's coming.)

I don't neccesarily think all of his ideas have worked, but I applaud him for trying to expand the show and do something very different.

I just want it revealed who the Order of the Silence, and the Brotherhood are working for (if anyone/anything).

"He will rise so high, and fall so much further...."

So sayeth River, or something to that effect. I dont believe it means his end, I think it means the way he acts.
