The next companion should be...

Maybe the Doctor could get a grown-up Alfie to be his companion? Craig would then be the companion's dad.

Oops, sorry, I just realised that you suggested that earlier in the thread. I forgot Alfie's name for himself.

i thought Alfie was gorgeous!

Craig? What, is Rani not available? :)

Despite how totally fanwanky as it would be I've always thought it would be cool to have a reluctant Dalek forced to travel with the Doctor for some reason. Probably have to be damaged or whatever...

Although I actually like Craig, I don't think he would work out as a companion. Although, I would not be opposed to him travelling in the TARDIS in his next appearance.

Didn't Scream of the Shalka do something siimilar to this with an android of the Master travelling with the Doctor? That was an interesting concept. Maybe they should do something similar. Imagine the Doctor with an android duplicate of John Simm's Master. That'd be pretty cool.

As I said in another thread it should be one of the kids from SJA. Either that or Lady Christina.

I also like the idea of a companion turning out to be a not-so-great person. Maybe they can travel with the Doctor for a while and over time turn into an enemy. Or maybe someone with more of a "Turlough vibe."

I sure wouldn't mind seeing Lady Christina again for an extended period. She's what made "Planet of the Dead" my fave of the 2009 specials. I can see it now: The TARDIS materializes on the front lawn of the de Souza estate. From a window, Christina recognizes the little blue box and runs outside, all smiles. She knocks on the door expecting 10 to appear, of course, but it's 11.

DOCTOR: "I've changed my mind!"
CHRISTINA: "Who--?"
DOCTOR: "Though from your perspective, I suppose I've changed more than that, haven't I?"
CHRISTINA: "What??"
DOCTOR: "Go pack a bag, Christina. We're going on an adventure!" :::cue opening titles:::

(Hm, maybe I'll write this!)

I don't think Craig would work out because he has a family to be concerned about. I don't know that the Doctor would take on a young family with a baby. Amy/Rory/Melody is quite different from Craig/Sophia/Stormaggedon. I think the Doctor would feel a bit guilty for having Craig along neglecting his family as well if it were just Craig.

What about Nasreen Chaudhry from "The Hungry Earth"

Her small time on the TARDIS made it look like she was a companion

As I said in another thread it should be one of the kids from SJA.
Not one of the kids from SJA but both of them. You can't have Rani or Clyde without the other.
rubbish Clyde is more than capable of being the Doctors companion without Rani around.

Clyde has normally been the best thing about SJA episodes, and has worked very well with both the 10th and 11th Doctor, when they appeared on the show, much better than the rest of the cast (expect Sarah Jane of course)

I never understood all the Clyde-love. I can't stand guys that constantly say how funny they are without ever actually saying anything that is remotely funny.

While I like Craig and Clyde and Rani and Lady Christina and wouldn't mind seeing any or all of them in a future Doctor Who story, I'm not anxious to see any of them as a full-time companion. They're all characters we've seen before, and reusing them as full-time companions would smack of Small Universe Syndrome, as if the only people the Doctor knows and are worthy to travel in the TARDIS are people he already knows.

I'd rather have a new companion character built from the ground up than a retread of an old character, especially Clyde and Rani because we've seen so much of them and they're so well defined already.

Sorry, I had to make the counter-argument, even though I really do like the mooted characters, each and every one of them. :)

Hardly. If the Doctor simply decides he wants to travel with one of his existing friends for a while, there's nothing "small universe" about it. It's just a decision he's made.

I think the problem with Clyde is that for alot of the audience, they will be confused by his relationship with the Doctors, and his past alien adventures generally. Plus he is a RTDs character, im not sure Moffatt will want a RTDs character hanging around.
