The New Xbox Experience is here - your thoughts

^
Yeah, it looks like all of marketplace has crashed.

Ack, anyone having problems getting some of the XNA stuff?

Haven't tried it - you develop using XNA?!

Hah, naw. I do have a freebie account that I haven't hooked up yet... but I was more interested in looking at some of the stuff.

The big problem with XNA stuff seems to be that the demos are timed as opposed to portioned like "real" XBLA games. And the timer includes load times and tutorials and whatever, so you pretty much can't get a feel of the game.

It's slick and the quick screens are better than the blades. The Mii's are pretty lame and actually have less options than the rudimentary Wii-Mii's. In the video playback mode they got rid of using the X button to change video source for some reason, which is annoying. Also the startup time seems to be longer now. I'd install games but I only have a 20gb hd and a new hd costs way too much. I'm no longer on Live Gold so the netflix is a dead end for me even though I subscribe to netflix. But overall it's free and it looks cool.

I'm going to fight the urge to make a female Mii60 simply because I don't need to be called a fag online.

I was wondering why in the world you had a female avatar. I was 90% sure you were a guy... :guffaw:

It'll take a little getting used to, but I like it so far. Very spiffy and no lag so far--I hope it stays that way. The only thing I don't like is how long it takes to scroll through your friends list in the graphical view. I have 30-something people on my list and it takes forever to scroll through them all.

Yeah, I lost my battle and ended up choosing the first female Mii thing that showed up on the parade. Then I was like, "fuck it", and decided to accessorize her.

The friends list is really annoying in this view... but at least the old view still exists in the guide button. Well, sort of.

What exactly does all the crap behind the friends in my list mean? Some of them have a whole lot more than others.

So after I upgraded my Xbox at 2 a.m., I noticed one of my friends already had a full-fledged "Mii." Turns out some Microsoft people were given the beta a while back, which included clothing and accessories not available to us mere peons.

Us 'peons' have had access to the NXE for a few weeks now via a signup process on Major Nelson's blog.

I'm not sure, but I think it's random. If I'm not mistaken the pattern of stuff behind the avatar repeats after every X person. Or maybe it's associated with gamerscore...I'm not sure.

How's that for a useless response?

It also changes depending on what theme you're using.

Indeed it did around 9pm UK time last night. I was trying to buy the export key to let me export the tracks from Rock Band on to my hard disk ready for when Rock Band 2 comes out on Friday.

Not nearly as useless as the new friends list itself

A small warning about this NXE business. I discovered last night that it had reset all of my Xbox Live privacy settings and made everything open to everyone.

24 hours after getting it my mates 360 died (kind of) Not RROD but his picture goes grainy after a while or no pic at all (sound is death). Read up on it and quite a lot of people got this, nothing to do with leads or his TV something to do with internal video signal becoming degraded. At least his next 360 will have new fixes in it since his current one from 2006.

Yeah, I find myself using the text-based friends list when you press the guide button all the time now. I'm not sure who thought it was a good idea to make a graphical representation that puts one friend (effectively) on the screen at a time, although being able to see who's in their party is a neat function.

Might as well throw up my new little XBox gremlin. Nothing too creative; just went for something that resembles me:
