It really doesn't appear that much thinner than the original TOS Starship/Constitution Class. The scale for them standing on the hull in TMP refit has always been considered WAY off.

IIRC, Connie saucer edge is six and half metres tall. Discovery's is less than four metres.

If the figure and the saucer were to scale with each other, there probably wouldn't be enough room to identify it as the saucer.

i'm loving the apparent gold or bronze-ish coloring aboard discovery, seen here and in the captain's chair photo booth thingie.
Agreed - I always found the palettes used in Voyager and Enterprise to be extremely cold, to the point of antiseptic. I love blue lights but not blue and monochrome gray sets. They seem to be moving to a warmer palette for Discovery, both inside and out. Definitely an improvement, IMO.
i think enterprise was rightfully cold. but voyager i agree with you on - it was turning away from the aesthetic that made TNG so unique and towards a more traditional, space ship vibe. enterprise embraced that but i thought it fit for that series, and those were also really attractive, well thought out sets.
looks like shenzhou is more metallic gray and discovery is warmer gold tones, i'm appreciating the differences. though somebody needs to turn up the lights on both those bridges.
That seems to be more the thing these days - with the recent exception of the Abramsverse Ent bridge, most bridges (including the Kelvin) seem to be quite darkly lit, going pretty much back all the way to TMP. Brightly lit bridges (Grissom, Reliant, 1701-D) by contrast seem to be somewhat rare. Adds to dramatic "mood" lighting, I guess. Shit, the USS Saratoga from TVH only seemed to be lit by console monitors with absolutely zero ambient lighting, and that was before the whale probe hit her.

i'm seeing what looks like wood on the lower right-hand side of that shot, so if it is the bridge, it's got some TNG-esque wood accents.
guess that means pink upholstery is out too.
That would make sense because if she just walked onto the bridge she'd likely be entering from from the back of the bridge so he is facing her (and the back of the bridge) in order to welcome her into the ship.
My thinking is that he may be talking with her on the way to the bridge, the scene where she says, "Win." He says, "That's the spirit" and a little after the doors to the bridge open. She pauses to take it in while he keeps walking, turns and says, "Commander Burnham, Welcome to Discovery."
Just a thought.
Are you sure that is Discovery? Her hair is the style she's got on the Shenzhou, as is the uniform, and it looks a lot like what we've seen of the Shenzhou bridge. It also seems to follow that color scheme while the few scenes we can be sure are on Discovery have a much lighter color.The boldly Go promo had almost the whole Discovery bridge on it.
