The New Mutants -- news, rumors, opix, etc;

Why damn? It's not like the movie is gonna make any more money at the cinema than it already has, may as well get it out there for the rest of us to finally see. :)

Yeah, most movies are going to home video pretty quickly right now thanks to the pandemic.

Considering the trials this went through, I'm surprised it had a cinema release at all.

Yeah, that's another reason why I really wanted it to get a proper release. After all it went through and seemingly produced at least a good and entertaining film, fate still wouldn't let it have a theatrical release. :(

Agreed. I'm hoping it will get a brief return or a 1-off showing somewhere next year.
That's what I'm hoping for some of these event films that are getting released on home video. After the pandemic is finally cleared and theaters are safe again, I hope studios re-release The New Mutants, Soul, Tenet, maybe even Enola Holmes (that one feels less necessary and I loved that film) and probably a few others. I would've said Mulan as well but there's too much behind-the-scenes bullshit weighing it down.

I did have a theatrical release, it was playing at the theater where I saw Tenet. I probably spent about a week debating which one I wanted to go see once I decided to say screw and go see a movie.

I enjoyed it. The changes they made did not detract overly from the original concepts in the original comics with one exception. The horror was clearly restrained by its rating but it had some cool, genuinely creepy moments. Its vibe was more akin to the first X-men film which is not a bad thing. There is clear potential to expand on the characters and I hope they do.

The re-used footage did not bother me since Ilyana can time travel, as can other characters who were peripherally implied. It could also have been information imparted telepathically from someone who had time travelled. The overall continuity was probably more consistent than the other recent Fox X-men movies.

It's not the best movie in the franchise but probably mid table with a lot of potential.

This is finally available for home rental, and I enjoyed it. It's certainly far from the worst movie in the FoX-Men universe. I would have totally been down to see further adventures with these characters. Except for a few moments with Roberto, I felt they got the characters pretty right on and largely enjoyed how they translated to live action.

Saw it yesterday on iTunes. I liked it a lot, but the audio was ahead of the video for about 30 seconds for most of the movie! Hopefully iTunes will fix that.

Just watched on Amazon. REALLY liked it. I haven't read the comics since I first got them decades ago, so I couldn't tell what was different, so I just sat back and enjoyed.

LOVED Lockheed!!!!!

Only criticism: TOO DARK!! I was watching on a sunny afternoon in my sunny living room, and there were some scenes where all I could see was my own reflection in the screen.

Anybody heard anything about when it'll be added to Disney+ or Hulu?
I was looking at the Blu-Ray while I was out shopping yesterday, and I was surprised to see there are no references to it being an X-Men movie, and other than the title there are no references to mutants. The description just calls them teens with powers.

That's been the strategy for some time. Originally there were going to be more overt ties to the X-Men movies, mentions of them in dialogue and maybe one or two characters showing up, but they chose to distance this film from the X-Men series and approach it more as a standalone horror film.

Yeah, I know they were talking about that with the story, but I figured they'd at least include some kind of reference to it being a new X-Men movie on the cover.

But if they downplayed it in the actual movie itself, why would you expect them to do otherwise in the promotion for the DVD?

Well...

The X-Men are directly mentioned more than once, and in fact, the kids are led to believe that once their treatment at the hospital is over they will be going to Xavier's institute, though he's not mentioned by name.

The truth of the matter was that the institute was being run by the Essex corporation, which is perfectly in line with how Essex was portrayed in Deadpool 2.
