The *new* Monopoly

chance6.gif

I mean, I got bored with the original Scene It because they re-used questions so much. It's why I never bothered playing any of the other versions.

At some point they should combine all of them to make an Ultimate Scene It or something...

The only thing is, how much can you fit on one disc... that's probably why they reuse so many in the first place.

I liked Monopoly just the way it was. I see no reason to upgrade to this fancy, weird, new version. The original has charm.

I think it was only a matter of time, really, and I'm okay with it as long as it doesn't replace the original Monopoly.

The key is not overdoing it or making it retarded: and I'm sorry, but having it sing Rihanna songs is retarded.

^ Ditto as well.

In a word, here's what I think of this "new" edition: Yuck.

Definitely NOT improved.

Cheers,
-CM-

the price increases are no bad thing, and the circular board is a novelty, but its no BAD thing, the music adds nothing.

I have a feeling the original Monopoly isn't going anywhere. This will just be Monopoly Variation #53. No biggie.

. . . yes I dont see the point of the music either, utterly pointless.
It's to grab that all-important youth demographic segment, don't you know!

Oh, and I must have been out of the loop for a while. When did Hasbro take over Parker Brothers?

^ From here:
Even after George Parker's death, the company remained family-owned until 1963, when General Mills purchased the company.
[...]
During the 1980s, General Mills merged the company with their subsidiary Kenner. This new company called Kenner Parker Toys Inc. was acquired by Tonka in 1987. In 1991, Tonka, including Parker Brothers was bought by Hasbro.
Sooo... Hasbro has decided to give Monopoly a makeover. They decided to bring it "into the 21st century" I suppose.

New Monopoly Game
From the article:

This is not the first game to get a modern reboot (there’s an update to the classic Trivial Pursuit...
I may just have been looking the other way and missed it, but when did Trivial Pursuit become a classic?

As for this update to Monopoly, I can see marketing people wanting to give things a fresh, new look--it's the marketing MBA's answer to practically anything, after all--but I really can't see this becoming anywhere near as popular as the old version.

If they really wanted to update it to a more modern feel all they have to do is make it so that there is a new "Government" character similar to the bank who gives big bailouts to players who were used to being the top player but are now almost out of the game. And they could run their companies/hotels into the ground and then get a HUGE severance package at the expense of the players who dont cheat as a rule...

The new board looks ugly and claustrophobic. As for getting $2,000,000 for passing go...WTF? :wtf:

Well, since you're buying real estate, they probably figured they'd go with more realistic numbers. I really don't think you can buy an entire avenue for $60 these days...
