The New Enterprise in 3D! ... NOW FINISHED (threads merged)

I know your renders helped me (mostly) get over my initial dislike. :)
Thanks. :)

TobiasRichter over at scifi-meshes is building his now, so mine is again obsolete.

I got the OK to convert his Kelvin mesh, and when finished, his Enterprise mesh over to Blender, so we have that to look forward to. :)

The only dislikes I have are the two tone hull, where the saucer hull is bumpy with hull plating, while the secondary hull is a smooth blue colour. I'm glad you didn't add that too your model & I hope the final movie version has got rid of that.

Yours is the best armature model, while his is the best profesional.
How dose he work that quickly ?

Actually my biggest dislike of the ship is explicitly NOT mirrored in your renders, the mismatched textures between the hulls. You've cleaned it up nicely.

Still, I've had 30 years to grow attached to the Gray Lady, and this girl tries too hard to be a trophy second-wife. :)

Thanks. :) I am actually learning quite a bit just converting his Maya Mesh into a Blender file. :)

He's awesome, that's how. :)

Yeah, I tried as hard as I could to get the textures to "gel". I think it turned out almost passable. :)

Well, here's how the conversion is progressing. :)

Probably be finished, tomorrow.

Gotta get blender reinstalled, even if I can't work it. Atleast I'll be able to view Tobias' mesh at last & then get back to working on my Kelvin.

A question

On all your pictures it has the same logo pattern & your credits. Is this added when rendering or is it added by pasting it on manually with a photoshop programme ?

It's added at render time. I made the image with Photoshop, and inside Blender, on the rendering window, there is a selection for "BackBuf". That renders your model on top of whatever image is selected.

:)

Ow it's background, I thourght it was a background image with a banner that appears in the foreground like with them news banners seen on TV channels.

Yours aren't obsolete. Different program, "style", I suppose. One thing I was impressed with, is you endeavored to "conjecture" this very early on, essentially guessing about 90%, and, looking at the comparison of the 3 models you built, man you were damn near spot-on concerning the overall look and feel.
And as always, many of us here are always impressed with the pace at which you build/update your projects....(we check in every three hours instead of every three weeks! :)
Concerning yor textures, I think they conveyed the perfect satin "pearl" look of the new E.

One thing that sticks in my mind was a reference by somebody? (can't remember now, sorry) who has seen the film stuff; something to the effect that "there were no clear side views in the film"...
almost like they are attempting to be sneaky and hide the actual shapes...(and that Playmates toy seems way off in certain aspects....pylons, etc.**(IMHO, ofcourse)**

Maybe saving the "secrets" for the $$ official STXI "Tech Manual" ? :)

Certainly love to see more work on your conjectural ships, the Klingon, etc.

BTW, Praetor, very nice post of the Jefferies images. Love the "behind the scenes" stuff.

I know, I was just being sarcastic. Making fun of the fact that every time I finish a model, I am ready to rebuild it. :)

I've nearly got TobiasRichter's Kelvin all imported, textured, and lit up.

Blender surprised me, as well as this looks. :)

Madman... I hope you are making money doing this kind of stuff, because you need to be working in this field my friend.

No, it's just a hobby. :) I have built some 3d models that I used for elements on some websites I've put together, but that's about it. It's more fun this way. :)

So, I finished converting TobiasRichter's Kelvin over to Blender. After some communication, I think I have fixed all of the issues I had with it. :)

I'm posting these as links, since photobucket has warned me that my bandwidth is getting low. :)

This is an incredible model. Tobias actually is a professional, and it shows. I just had to click a bunch of buttons. :) (It was actually more work than that, but that's what it amounted to.)

Now, maybe I can get back to my Klingon ship. :)

Wow, that does look good. Nice work all around!
OK, I have been busy working on my Klingon ship. I really liked those concept drawing that got posted, so I incorporated some of those ideas into my Warp Nacelles. I had been a little stuck, before. :)

I think this is coming along very well. :)

Going to start on the Bridge/Head area now...
