The New Enterprise in 3D! ... NOW FINISHED (threads merged)

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg178/judexavier/STXIEnterpriseNCC-1701ConjectureFLA.jpg

Time to tear it down and re-re-rebuild it again.:)
With the front view roughed in, errors immediately pop up.
The nacelles really have to be lower, more inline with the hull.

I do now think the saucer is a good bit wider, maybe 20%.
(somebody kept saying that earlier, and I do believe they are correct).

I think the rear is going to be very narrow too.

I think that you are doing fine and really noting attention to detail. This may be the most accurate orthos (line drawings) on the new Enterprise. :techman: Keep up the excellent work. :techman:

The more I look at attempts at this ship, the more I warm up to the design. However, I'm not too confident that the "true" model will be as lovely.

Good Mercy Lord those images are nice. You nailed that pearlescent texture look as well.
Man truely great job.

So when is your next thread coming? :)
Thanks. I think this is the best texturing job I've managed yet. :)

An example... The first image is my previous model,

Versus the new one...

So, what does everyone think about the nacelle caps? I heard they were orange, and in one image it looked like it had a lightning type thing going on, so that's what I came up with. I have a blue version, too...

-=MadMan=-

You know, the screen caps don't seem to show much of anything going on...which really suprised me. Like you said, some faint "lightning" type blurred effect, (and I guess spinning turbine/food processor blades) but they really seem dark and boring, considering the inspiration from TOS, those wonderful orange spinning glowing mystery things. (Later known as "bussard collectors"...still havent figured THAT out yet...) anyway...

Bluish might look nice, as the sceen caps seem fairly monochromatic/blue.

Another thought, since they put so much effort into those nacelle fronts, the movie may feature an incredible effect not shown in the trailer...hopefully.

Yeah, I'm hoping it's something pretty spectacular. :)

Here's a little something I was working on this afternoon...

MadMan and Judexavier,

I've been following this thread with interest. Both of you are very talented artists, and I've really liked what I've seen so far.

I do have two suggestions, based on what I've seen in the trailer:

1. (This one's primarily for MadMan) I don't think the Bussard collectors on this new Enterprise glow red at all, even when the ship is at warp.

2. I'm pretty sure the rim of the saucer sticks out much more than your depictions. Your saucers seem to be the same size as the TMP Enterprise's saucer; however if you look at the scene showing the rear of the Enterprise when it jumps to warp, the saucer's diameter is larger/longer than the TMP Enterprise. It would really show up in a front-view, where it would give the impression that the nacelles are really close together when in fact it's just the saucer that's too big. I think that's why the saucer was so skewed when you superimposed the official image onto your drawing...the saucer is much larger than you're making it out to be.

I think you are definitely right about the saucer being MUCH larger, and I am going to build a variant with a larger one eventually.

I'm going to be disappointed if the Nacelles don't glow, since that's one of the things I liked best on the Original Ship!

So, I got tired of modeling today, and made some wallpaper.

This one is the new Enterprise leaving Earth Orbit.

And this is the new Enterprise leaving the Starbase...

I hope everyone likes these. :) I modeled and made everything myself, except for the textures and clouds on earth, and those came from Nasa's Visual Earth Website. The Moon is a photo my Uncle took with his telescope. :)

Looking at those bussards gives me an idea on how they can kill Nero in the movie.

LOL
Heh, yeah, that would be kind of an anti-climax, wouldn't it? They just get Nero outside of the ship, fly by, and suck him in. :)

Well, Here's a simpler image of the Enterprise, with no other ships etc.

It lets you look just at the ship, and not everwhere else. I think the earth was the focus in my last wallpaper. :)
