The New Enterprise in 3D! ... NOW FINISHED (threads merged)

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

Haha, that side view sketch is mine. I did it based off the one image we got. However, there is an official profile view out there on the net somewhere.

FIND IT!!! WE MUST FIND IT!!!
ZURG RUSH!

And sorry about not crediting you about the sketch.

I'm probably going to see the midnight showing of Quantum of Solace (I still think it should have been called "Quantum of Solstice", that actually makes sense). When/if I do go tonight, I'll take a notepad to write down notes on about the trailer if I see the Enterprise.

Oh its fine. I just dont want people thinking its an official sketch, and then getting pissed about the wrong things.

Here is that profile pic:

Hmm, I wonder why that pic was taken down?

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. :)

I don't like my textures so far, they look too strong and "dirty". I'll be working on some better ones, and will have pics tonight.

Somebody had said the Domes light up Red/Orange, so that's what I made them.

You've made this design seem almost...awesome. Well done!

Some things still bug me - like the lack of starfleet marks and stripes. It seems really weird to leave the ship unmarked (aside from the name/number)

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

As has been said before, this ship is shown certainly out of warp. It might not even be quite complete. The paint job might be done next Tuesday or something.

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

Yeah, I bet the Enterprise has just been gotten ready to go when the attack on Vulcan happens, and it used in a hurry.

Of course, the new Kelvin Images show that it doesn't have much in the way of paint, either...

Dang it, MadMan, you're making me like the beastie....

Excellent work!

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

Madman's skills are awesome, its just that he also manages perfectly to show that the Rebootprise is ugly from every angle.

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

Just so I know, what's the poly count on that bad boy?
Because in order to get it into Star Trek Legacy, I'll need it to be no more than 60k polys.

Any when/if you send me the model, could you send me one without the name/number? So that the registry in-game wouldn't overlap over the ship texture.

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

Some people dont like this new ship. I for one think it is awesome. Before now my favorite ship was the Rhode Island. Now it is a close tie. It just looks like it is in motion even if it's standing still.

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

Great models dude, love it. I don't think the "cowlings" or whatever are going anywhere either and I like them.

And I love the people bashing the design. Side by side with the other original Enterprise designs there is only minor difference and the fact it's new. It looks almost just like them.

Keep up the good work!

Must see trailer! I just hope it looks as good as this. I also need a copy of this model.

Thanks for the compliment... even if I disagree. :) I think the textures are going to help a lot here.

As far as the poly count, I'm not sure how to guess in blender, but it is probably more than 60k. I'm kind of a "dirty" modeler too, what are you going to use to import it with? It may not make it through the conversion. :)

I wish the trailer would get released early...

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

Would it be possible that when you are done with it, make a dumbed down poly count version? Something around 40 to 50k?

Possibly.

What about the textures? I normally just do TIFFs and UV project them.

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

Yeah, that's no problem, just the poly count is a bit of an issue.
If there is one ship with over 60k polys, with 10 other ships around 40k polys, that is a SHITTON of lag.
Of course, I'm being conservative, my computer could handle it, but I don't know about other people's computers.
So when you're finished, just send me your model as is, if it doesn't run well, I'll let you know.

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

Nicely done, MadMan1701A; you seem to be getting the contours and proportions just right. Unfortunately, I have to agree that a good model doesn't make me think it's a good design; with the additional angles, I'm even more convinced that the proportions and layout just don't combine into a ship that looks as good as the original, let alone 'better' or 'more believable.' I don't mind change - I just hope that 'change' is 'improvement,' and I don't see any improvement in this design.

But good work on the model :bolian:

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

:wtf:?

Ok, props for modelling the thing, but it doesn't look anything like the publicity shot. This rendering makes the ship look bloody awful. The saucer needs work and the nacelle struts need to be straighter.

I know there is a lot of work to do here, but I really like the new design, even though I'm not 100 percent sold on the nacelles...yet.

This looks ugly, wheras the new design...in my opinion, doesnt.
