The New Enterprise in 3D! ... NOW FINISHED (threads merged)

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

I am convinced now more than ever that those are engine cowls and will be removed at some point in the movie. I could be wrong, but I just have this really strong suspicion that those are NOT the actual size of the nacelles.

I don't think they are going anywhere, because the pylons are counting right up against that droopy part on the bottom. You'd have to take the engines off, take the cover off, and then stick the engine back on. :)

Looking good. I must say this design really is starting to grow on me...

I see what you're saying, but for some reason I'm seeing round tubes under those cowls. The cowls seem almost like an afterthought to me.

Yeah, I see those too, but I'm not sure what's in there. I think the dark open area below that is an intake, like the 3 little square things on the bottom of the TOS nacelles.

I'm really starting to like these, they are like a nice merging of the TMP style and the TOS style. Almost an intermediary step...

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

Nice work as usual. Couple of things:

1. your saucer edge needs a less rounded profile. It is not nearly that round in the photo and almost squared off.
2. the engine cowls definitely are separate pieces and should not be contiguous with the upper cowl.
3. That metal strap thing you have put on the front of the bussard is I believe an optical illusion created by the high gloss reflective surface of the glass there.

Looking at the original pic zoomed in, I can't help but notice there must be some really awkward rooms based on the windows placed right next to that "fold" in the neck. lol

Thanks for the suggestions...

As far as #1, the saucer is VERY rounded. I had made it more traditional to begin with, but it didn't look the same to me, so I made it more rounded, and it seems to match better.

#2, it looks to me like they both have the same shape, but the uppermost "cowl" (the one with the blue lights under it) is just on top. I can see two "rims" there, but I admit that some of that may be just jpg artifacting.

#3, there is definitely a "clamp" or something on the front of the domes there. it extends down past where the refective part ends

Thanks for the suggestions, you may very well be right, and I may be totally off base, it doesn't help that we don't have high res images yet.

I'm sure I will build another one of these once I get hold of alot more images. :)

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

1.There is some roundness to it, but yours is too far. the top "edge" should at least further out than the lower edge giving us that TOS slant we all know and love.
2. conceded, it could be interpreted different ways.
3. there is something at the bottom of the "glass dome" yes, but if you do a zoom you will see that your strap and cap are flush with the dome surface, hence, a reflection.

Ok, I'll give you #1. I'll fiddle with it.

I still stand by 2 and 3. :)

I also moved the entire saucer section up a little, that helps A LOT. :)

This might help give you an idea on the top of the saucer:

By the way, I'm trying to avoid nit-picking as much as possible, I'm thankful you're making the model, greatly.
And just a request... move the engineering back just a hair.

By the way... ever consider recreating this one?

Yep, that's a little bit of an older image. I need to post a new side ortho, with the new engines and whatnot on it.

Do you mean the model, or the style of the wallpaper? I tried to build the model, but I got sidetracked.... I should return and finish it!

Hey, Nitpick away. :)

Looks like it's being followed by a pair of Doomsday Machines acting as symbiotic 'cleaner' fish.

Ha! I didn't think about that until you said it. :) That's the funniest thing I've heard all day..... :)

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

Mad man, do you know of the side profile thats already online?

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

I like the new side view, the saucer looks nice.
I'd suggest make the nacelles slightly thinner (vertically) and make the whole nacelle longer and make the engineering hull slightly larger with a slightly thinned nacelle struts. The man who designed the new Enterprise stated that the image that was released is quite deceiving when it comes to proportions.

New length:

Also, if this picture says anything:

View from the aft end of the nacelle facing the bow of the ship.
It shows that at the end of the nacelles, there are small fins.

Yeah, I don't know about the length of the nacelles. I head alot about them being stubbier than usual...

Of course, I can always tweak this after we see the trailer. :)

A few more before bed. Started the Textures!

Somebody had said the Domes light up Red/Orange, so that's what I made them.

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

I say, if you pop the "cowlings" off of the top and under the nacelle caps that those engines wouldn't look half bad...

I still wonder if they get ejected at some point...

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

Haha, that side view sketch is mine. I did it based off the one image we got. However, there is an official profile view out there on the net somewhere.

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

Good Lord that's' it! Awsome as always, Madman. One tiny thing, the top "swell angle" of the saucer, (before it gets to the command dome structures) might be more "steep".
That was something I was too lazy to change in those old conjecture pics. (from the first teaser).

Oh hell, I didn't see the newer stuff load down below!...
Wow.
cool.
I'll stop bothering you now so you can Keep Working! :)
