The new DS9 station-Anyone draw it yet? (SPOILER ALERT)

Jeff

Finished Raise the Dawn, and for those of you who have read it, you know that the old DS9 station is destroyed. On the final page of the book there is a description of the new facility that will become the new Deep Space Nine (and it doesnt mesh with what they have on the cover of the book). Has anyone taken a crack at drawing it yet?

It has been confirmed by the author that what is on the cover are the modules for the construction of the construction yard for the new station and not the new station itself under construction.

The thread title is a huge spoiler in and of itself

"new" ds9 instantly leads one to ask what happend to the old ds9

^ Agreed. Could one of the mods change it?
The destruction of DS9 née Terok Nor is probably the single biggest spoiler of the entire year for the entire franchise EDIT:with the possible exception of the final identity of Cumberbatch's character in STXII, though it depends on how you look at it.

Yeah - bit of a spoiler.

I did doodle a sketch today on my lunchbreak of what I was picturing, but it's probably a mile away from what the station ends up looking like.

TBH - would've quite liked them to continue being based at the Wintara Mas site for a bit, it would've been a nice homage to the original concept of DS9 being a planet based Starfleet station.

The identity of the Cumberbatch character is a much bigger deal.

Yeah, I doodled just the basic shape on a piece of paper of three connected rings (one along the X-axis, another along the Y-axis, and another along the Z-axis). Reminds me a lot of one of the early concepts for DS9, although it had two of the three rings along the same axis.

If I hadn't already been spoiled about this...I would be seriously mad about the title of this thread. People should have more sense.

The link doesn't work. I'm also wondering what the new station looks like too. Hopefully there will be more DS9 soon.

I'm planning on starting Plagues of Night next week. Mad doesn't even begin to explain how I feel right now

But the identity of Cumberbatch's character reveals little, if anything, about the plot of the film. To use a baseball analogy, knowing the teams, or even the players on the teams, doesn't tell you the final score. (Well, unless you're Nate Silver, I suppose.)

To me, plot spoilers are a Much Bigger Deal than character spoilers. But that's just me, hence why I said that it depends on how you look at it. :)

Unless the character spoiler is also the plot spoiler. We'll have to wait and see re: Cumberbatch.

Meantime, on the subject of the title...I've toyed with some ideas based on the novel's text. But I'm not sure that I should upload any of those ideas. Not right now, anyway. I'm prepared to hear counter-arguments, of course, but until we know who's been commissioned to do it up officially...

I would just post some stuff anyway. I mean, it was only after Destiny that we first saw the Aventine, and for three novels we had no real idea yet of that Titan looked like. It's fan-art, so go for it!

That's true, DEWLine, but I'm not convinced that any character spoiler could without question spoil the plot as well. In any case, though, you're right, we will have to wait and see about Cumberbatch.

The thread title really does need to be changed, though.

In terms of uploading artwork, you could probably upload it to the Fan Art subforum. Or upload to some other website. I try to be really cautious about story ideas and respecting intellectual property in the TrekLit forum, so my advice is probably over-conservative.

There's no reason why it would be. There's always more than one possible story you can tell about a given character. The Wrath of Khan wasn't remotely the same story as "Space Seed," nor was First Contact remotely the same story as "Metamorphosis." Nor was "Blood Oath" the same story as "Errand of Mercy," "The Trouble With Tribbles," or "Day of the Dove."
