The new DS9 -- photo gallery

Doug Drexler has just posted a Facebook gallery with dozens of images of the novels' new Deep Space Nine, including behind-the-scenes material about the design and rendering of the station (by Trek legend Andrew Probert and digital artist "deg," who I believe posts on the BBS as deg3D), and close-ups on many details.

So what do you all think?

Cool! That'll certainly help my mediocre imagination skills the next time I'm reading a DS9-R-Relaunch novel. :bolian:

So where is the Memorial Park? From the text it seems to be up near the hub? Or is it at the top of the sphere?

As always, anything Doug and Andy help design is packed with neat little details, but this design just doesn't look good. I think the size of the central sphere and the docking ring make it look smaller than it actually is.

I don't like it, looks far too friendly and safe, its an iSpaceStation. DS9 should be dark, forbidding, mysterious and dangerous...

Overall, I like it. I'm good with the station being slightly more Federation/Starfleet looking. I actually would have been fine with the new DS9 being a full-on Starfleet 'space dock' looking thing.

I enjoyed the 'behind the scenes' look at how it all came about as well.

The details really make the station. The close-up details give it a lot more commonality both with existing Federation designs AND with the original DS9. Things like the "Sail tower" phaser strips look like the stuff from the older design's retrofitted weapons fit.

Ugh, Facebook. Oh well, hopefully they'll find their way somewhere else someday. I sure miss Drex Files... :(

Wow, I love the new station design. For the non-Facebook people on here, 8of5 has a few of them on his site.

Thank you! Is that all of them? The OP said "dozens" and that looks like only about 1 dozen.

I wish people would stop presuming everyone in the world uses that bloody awful rubbish facebook site...

From the looks of it, they designed a docking arm specifically for the shape of Galaxy class ships. That seems... wasteful. How many Galaxy class ships are out there?
