The neverending toupic, uh topic

Nooo, c'mon! Didn't Patrick Stewart prove that bald is sexy???

I say Bill should just go "au natural" and let the world see his golden dome. There's no shame in being bald. You are who you are. Besides he may have one helluva good crown up there and we ladies are being deprived of yet another bit of his Shatner awesomeness.

Hey thanks :techman:

It's truly amazing that there is no genuine photo of a bald Shat floating around after all these years, particularly in this age of cell phone cameras etc.

When he was in my part of the world, he got around in a cowboy hat, and of course, the toup was on during public appearances.

Our idiot local tabloid newspaper tried to ambush him at the airport when arrived for his visit here, but he had his hat on just in case.

Shat 1 Papparazzi 0

Just for the record, the pictures are available, even from the filming of the series. But the folks who respect Mr. Shatner's wishes aren't going to show them.

And please don't ask.

Good on them. But still remarkable that one hasn't appeared online.

I actually thought his hair was real on TOS, but the tell all books of the 90's gave it away. The TOS wigs sure looked a lot better than those TJ Hooker/movie era ones.

For the past few years I've been expecting the great man to wear a hat on a talk show and fling it into the audience revealing a totally shaved head for charity or something.

I just had a wild thought--if Shatner had not worn a toupee and had been the bald(ing) captain would they have picked a bald man to play Picard?

I THINK NOT!! Since they were all about making the TNG captain quite different than Kirk.

Shatner's toupee is 100% responsible for the casting of Patrick Stewart in the role of Picard. Every time catch a glimpse of that toupee sitting a bit badly just think of it as foreshadowing.

The toupee of destiny

Ahh, but then Stewart might have been cast as Picard wearing his toupee, as he did during initial auditions.

Two captains...one toupee...

Has anyone ever made a Z-grade horror movie about a killer hairpiece and called it Hell Toupee? Because somebody really should...

In all seriousness, there WAS such a production! I think it was from the NBC anthology series "Amazing Stories". (I just can't imagine the Twilight Zone or Outer Limits revival doing something like that.) Yes, it was written as broad farce. It focused upon a hairpiece that would take over the mind of the person wearing it, motivating them to kill. When not resting upon a person's bald pate, it scurried about like a squashed tribble (maybe a "Martian Flat Cat" ala Heinlein?). Once it was finally locked away, the person responsible for its capture, a young and relatively inexperienced defense attorney, says, "No, I can't rest easy...not until I can find a more dignified name for the 'penal system'!"

And, yes, "Hell Toupe" was the title of the segment!

Sincerely,

Bill

I have to admit, I no doubt saw that episode back in the day and must've gotten the idea there. Mercifully I've forgotten everything else about it.

Well, if you take it as intended, a spoof or parody of those 1950s "infiltration" type invasion flicks (ala "...Body Snatchers"), it's pretty silly.

Sincerely,

Bill
