The needle and thread, thread.

Thankfully son loved it

I'm delighted that he showed taste & wisdom. :D

It is a tad 'snug' and he desperately needs other clothes to go with it ~ Holdy your advice would be appreciated, I was thinking pinstripe trousers?

... That form of dress is pretty much reserved to diplomatic functions these days, so unless your son gets invites to Royal Banquets and the like, a more relaxed interpretation would be required. ;)

Modern spins on traditional outfits aren't really my forte (I'm a traditional fuddy-duddy at heart), but I'd have thought sticking with dark/rich colours for the shirt, adding in a waistcoat of some description, and some mid or charcoal grey chalkstripe or pinstripe trousers should do the trick.

Oh damn, That was a real invitation? I really should not have taken that card of themselves on the front so lightly and anyway We (I'm using the royal We as you'll note) couldn't have made it due to the weather ;)

Do waistcoats really go with tails? But I do like the idea of chalkstripes. Thanks Holdy :)

If I were going to wear something like that, I'd probably go with black skinny jeans and a snug white v-neck t-shirt and white silk scarf to off-set the formality of it. I could see him going on a night out with his friend's like that... maybe he'll start a fad with them. :D

He went out tonight with red scarf but he really needs the skinny black jeans to go with as you say :)

Don't forget the proper headgear..

Unfortunately at the moment he only has a Bowler ~ but EBay is open 24/7 :D

Well, traditionally with white-tie outfits, yes, a white waistcoat would be mandatory. It's a different kind of waistcoat though, being both cut low and also cut away to match the shape of the tails.

But in the absence of white-tie occasions, I rather think it's wiser to let your son come up with bizarre combos we (or at least, I) wouldn't understand... ;)

Well Holdy, left to his own choices he did shop for a waistcoat and "proper" trews ~ so for all... this is his New Year's Eve outfit...

I think he looks fabulous ~ but I would say that anyway ;)

He looks fabulous. You are quite the Mom.

Thanks JAG :)
I wasn't perfect Mum when he 'forgot' to phone me when he stayed out the other night ~ but after I 'volunteered' him for a day clearing out Nana and G'dad's loft I'm hoping that has cured that memory loss ;)

Looking pretty sharp, esp. for his age. Hope he has fun out in it tonight.
