The nacelles really do it for me. You?

The nacelles wouldn't look so bad if the secondary hull was bigger. Either make the nacelles smaller or make the secondary hull bigger, because right now it looks distorted and weird, at least to me.

I like the nacelles on the final version - not the "wizards" profile photo - a lot. I'd like to see ta variation of them replace the automobile-grille specials on the ST:TMP ship.

I'm confused about which nacelles people are talking about in this thread...

The (wrong) version in the original post,

Or the perspective shot a bit lower down (the actual nacelles/ship)

After seeing the various angles of the new Enterprise, is anyone else in agreement that the radical departure from the original nacelles is an improvement?

NO.

I can learn to like the rest of the ship with time, but those nacelles are just damn FUGLY. The rest of the ship looks enough like the TMP refit design or 24th century ships I like that I can learn to like it as the months pass, but the nacelles are just way too big and bulky for a ship with these proportions. Ick.

As it was said, this is not the ship. It's a picture of an early prototype for the toy.
The other picture is the one that resembles the ship and is the final version of the toy.

I'm pretty pleased with them, now that I've seen them in profile. The tapering of the rear nacelle tips harmonizes nicely with the fluting of the secondary hull, and the huge cowlings on the caps are flashy but sort of aggressive-looking at the same time.

The relative proportion of the nacelles still strikes me as off, but I think that's the fun of it, as if the nacelles are bigger than they need to be out of designer's pique. I can see how the people who think the exterior looks sort of ungainly arrived at that opinion, but I like it.

The nacelles aren't much bigger than those of TOS, really. Just wider toward the front, and tapered. They're not "bulky" at all. They're very streamlined.

I don't like them, Sam-I-am. Looks like they are trying too hard.

Yes, exactly, that's why I'm digging them, they have a sort of decadent populuxe quality that distinguishes them from Jefferies' tasteful minimalism without being completely alien.

For me, it all comes down to how they look in the final film.

Right now, it reminds me of what they did to KITT in season four(?) of "Knight Rider" to make him seem super-kewl. And that wasn't a good thing.

The nacelles are the only part of the new Enterprise that "do it for me". They have a sleek, swoopy thing going on and a rather visually pleasant taper, while the saucer is TMP redux and the engineering hull is... well, just look at Cog's avatar.

I don't like the nacelles. The rest of the ship is fine, but those nacelles are huge and ugly. There also doesn't seem to be any angle to them. They look like they just come straight up from the engineering hull. I liked the angle in the TOS Ent.

This is what the new nacelles remind me of:

Making the nacelles uncircumcised was definitely a bold move. Its rumored that in XII the Enterprise will get a briss, and we'll see a more conventional looking ship after that.

The nacelles are OK. I kinda dig the saucer even if it is allot like TMP. The 2 things that get me are the engineering hull and how it looks all squished together. The saucer could be taken out towards the front more.

Prototype for the toy or not, the nacelles need a trim and slimdown. I'm liking the rest of the ship with time but those babies are not going to look right in my eyes and many others' until and unless they're streamlined even more and made a little less awkward proportionally compared to the saucer and stardrive.

Now do it with ice-cream cones. Rocky road for me, please No, Drumsticks! :D

And can one of the ice cream scoops look like William Shatner?
