The music in this show is obnoxiously.....

... loud and interferes with dialogue. I need to have CC on the entire time. The music swells up, even when there is what should be a quiet moment between two characters...it's pretty much never ending in the show....music is in the background for almost every minute of every episode.

There were still "quiet" breaks during Amok Time.
Not really. And especially not during all the key parts.

Some of DSC's music is noticeable, but I mentally tune a lot of it out. An example that just popped into my head where there's no music: I don't think there's any during most of the dinner scene with Saru invites most of the crew for basically a Thanksgiving Dinner in the fourth episode of this season.

There are probably others but I, unlike some, aren't actively looking out for them.

Weird complaint. Usually people complain that music in post TOS Trek shows is not bombastic or loud enough.

True. Though i have now rewatched TNG,DS9 and Voyager. Tngs got too subtle but I feel Ds9 and Voyager had the best overall balance. Discovery imo has swung the other way. Tries to be too majestic all the time.

I can understand the characters fine. However, I agree on your take of 'obnoxious'. The music is relentless in reinforcing the DRAMA and EMOTION the writers ineptly whack us upside the head with. And just to be clear - finding Discovery's background music overbearing does not equal 'let's return to the dreariness of TNG-era elevator music'.

Then what does it mean? Because a consistent complaint I keep reading is that Discovery is forcing emotions upon the audience, as if the audience is passive recipients with no will of their own.
