Removing galaxy's child weird A plot about the Enterprise adopting a space baby and a weird B plot about Geordi being a creep.

It's interesting how so much of season 3 is left.

I was just thinking the same thing. Given that's where general consensus usually suggests that the show finally found its place, it's intriguing how generic we're apparently finding that season.

On that note I'll take out Deja Q - part of the ongoing Q storyline and we get to see Q without his powers (and stabbed with a fork by Whoopi Goldberg) and meet another Q. And Data gets to laugh for the first time.

My guess at the beginning was that it would look a lot like this. Season 3 and 4 are when they really found the show, that's when they're setting the template. Seasons 1 and 2 are experimenting trying to find that structure, and season 5 - 7 are trying to expand/twist/complicate it, but the middle of the show is when they're really setting expectations of what a TNG episode is.

"Half a Life" is a goner. It shows Lwaxanna Troi is a sympathetic even noble and nonannoying role which is remarkable in an of itself. It also broaches the difficult question of euthanasia and of the way societies treat their elderly (which is often badly) as a class of people. The solution offered is, of course, the worst possible, at least IMO. I would have only 21 months left!!!

Removing Gambit. Surprised it made it this far, they operate most of the episode under the apprehension Picard is dead.

Wow, we got down to the last 25 episodes of TNG very quickly.

"Firstborn" is taken out. This was the first time traveling Klingon.

The Mind's Eye is assassinated. It has La Forge acting very much out of character.

"Menage a Troi" is disbanded. A Ferengi in love with Deanna's mother, kidnaps her, along with Deanna and Riker (need I say more?). Well, there's more. In order to free Lwaxanna without starting a war, Picard has to convince the Ferengi that he's in love with her, so much so that he's willing to start a war to get her!!! Paradox!

The High Ground is abandoned. The terrorist attack on The Enterprise, where Geordi saves the ship and Picard slugs a terrorist, and Ron Jones's kick ass music elevates this terrorist show from the generic.

"The Price" is right (out of the window)!
A group of people negotiates the acquisition of an apparently stable wormhole. Turns out the wormhole is only stable on one end (the one in the Alpha Quadrant) and two Ferengi end stranded on the other side of the Galaxy. We haven't seen the last of them, though, in the franchise that is.

Bloodlines goes extinct. It's part of the home stretch of the final season and the plot - main character has a child they didn't know about - is rather abnormal for TNG even if cliché for television as a whole. It also features callbacks to the first season.

The sequel to "The Battle" that nobody wanted!

The Hunted is taken out. This episode represents TNG before it had totally abandoned its adventure roots. I like how it ends with a revolution and Picard leaving a planet to resolve it own problems.

Removing Lonely Among Us. Visiting dignitaries who look like wild animals (In poor costume I might add) kill and eat each other. That part of the episode is so freaking ridiculous I just have to laugh.

"We'll Always Have Paris" is bogarted away by a heavy smoker!

Picard and an Old flame who's married to a crazy scientist! It's also an homage (especially the title) to Casablanca the classic movie (with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman). We see three Datas at the same time and they talk to each other!!! Well, that definitely puts it out of the most generic episode competition.

is taken out, for free. That holodeck simulation was one of the most unique and weird settings we've seen in the franchise.

Tin Man heads off to explore the galaxy! Always felt the focus of the episode was Tam elbrun and the crew were supporting characters in his story. Also it had a Sentient starship wanting to commit suicide.
