The Most Funny and Creepy Wesley Scene

I had forgotten about Wesley splicing the recordings.

But why would he need to do that anyway? Can't he just generate a hologram of Picard to give out orders? It's not like the holograms are copyrighted, Barclay copied the crew (including Picard) in his holograms.

It's worth mentioning that this ocurred prior to the events of The Big Goodbye, when the holodecks had supposedly had a recent 'upgrade', causing Picard to comment on the unbelievable realism he encountered. Realistic duplicate people might not have been so easy to produce prior to this. Even if it was, Wesley being a minor might prevent him from accessing certain programs.

Just a thought to throw into the mix. :)

It certainly seems like a big potential security oversight if you can so easily produce holo-copies of people and program them to give questionable orders.

Even if Wesley was just playing Starship on the Holodeck there could be an issue duplicating existing personnel. When Barclay did it people thought he was crossing a line and when on DS-9 Kira found out about what Quark was planning she hit the roof. Laforge also had problems when he duplicated Dr. Leah Brahms just to help work out a technical issue and she discovered it later.
I think in the future there is a certain social stigma associated with involving actual being recreated on the Holodeck, but I think fantasizing about commands over the intercom does not cross that boundary.

The Visitor is a total creep and he is really stupid when you just listen to his words. The way he looks at Wesley is not appealing at all.

then again, I'd probably hand Wesley over before one of his science experiments threatens to destroy the whole ship again

Indeed, the only holographic person we see prior to TBG is Tasha's sparring partner in "Code of Honor", and he moved and behaved very artificially.

Wesley making that recording was just something a kid like Wesley would do, although I'm not quite sure that he's acting his age sometimes. He was supposed to capture the wonder and awe of the universe from the perspective of youth (I think he makes a tractor beam or something in that one as well and guffaws over it), but I would chalk up the awkwardness to it being the 1st season, like how I'm surprised that "Code of Honor" was even made, but that's a different subject altogether. Anyway, I did think there was something strange about the Traveler's interest in him, but the three episodes that the Traveler was in were pretty good (especially "Remember Me"), so I guess you can overlook it.

It's a shame that just as Wesley kind of started to act, er, "normal," he left the show. "The First Duty" and "Journey's End" were very good in comparison to his earlier shows.
