Game The Most Disliked Trek Noir

Saving "BOUND".

It was a nice twist that the Orion slave girls are really the ones in charge. And they were quite sexy.

TOS, Season 3: "Turnabout Intruder"
TNG, Season 6: “Aquiel”
VOY, Season 1: “Ex Post Facto”
VOY, Season 2: “Investigations”
ENT, Season 3: “Rajiin”

Now that's a list. But there's more to a script than what's on paper...

TOS, Season 3: "Turnabout Intruder"

Both Sandra Smith and William Shatner pretty much steal the show, in what's a muddled and muddy script -- one that only needed a little tweaking to make any of its statements more consistent (e.g. was Lester legitimately insane and barred because of that, or angry because they didn't let in women - which then contradicts "The Cage" and so on but that's hardly saying there weren't legitimate sexism issues at the time, and the show didn't do canon like that back then and the episode (for worse and better) allows all sorts of different takeaways...), or other issues in-universe. Never mind "The Cage" was an unseen pilot, of which only just enough was put into "The Menagerie"...

I'd say Sandra did the best acting. Which isn't easy to say because it's more fun to play up acting insane or evil than it does to be a goodie, but she sells Kirk-as-trapped-in-another's-body extremely well.

What's left:

TNG, Season 6: “Aquiel”
VOY, Season 2: “Investigations”
ENT, Season 3: “Rajiin”

My final save for this game is "INVESTIGATIONS".

A good attempt to give Neelix another thing to do. Plus, the other two left are FAR worse episodes. Good luck on figuring this one out, folks.

TNG, Season 6: “Aquiel”
ENT, Season 3: “Rajiin”

I'll save Rajiin as Aquiel was just a pretty dumb episode all around. It was a bad ROTW, and a bad mystery.

Oh Aquiel, Aquiel, wherefore art thou Aquiel!

(yet another example of a season 5 or 6 episode where the teaser comes across exciting and gripping and with good music... then one sees the actual episode... maybe that's why the term was switched from "teaser" to "trailer", LOL.)

A 4th double-winner! Joining "Shockwave", "These Are The Voyages...", and "Spirit Folk."

I don't totally hate "Aquiel", but it is inert enough that I find it difficult to get through, so that's pretty bad. And most of the terrible episodes on this list were at least fun or interesting, so to be working with noir tropes and to be boring in the final result is a serious failure.

Thanks for playing, everyone! This list was a challening one to pull together, so it was particularly satisfying to watch these eliminations unfold.

Next up, back to director lists for a minute: "The Most Disliked Episode Directed By Mike Vejar." Going up later today. Hope to see you all there! :bolian:

Mike Vejar was a superb director for Trek so look forward to the seeing his list.

I just watched Aquiel the other night and it truly is a stinker, I found myself reaching for the fast forward button. Poor Geordi, people think he’s a creep for having an illicit holodeck romance using someone’s likeness without her permission (and then getting indignantly pissed off when she objects to the sheer creepiness of it). This time he romances a girl after first rummaging through her room, reading (sorry, watching) her diary and taking her (homicidal blob of a) dog. :guffaw:

And for some reason, unlike Mrs. Brahms, Aquiel found the whole thing "charming".

Going through her entries was understandable in this case... they thought she was dead and were trying to find out what occured.

I agree with that, too. I think real Leah just saw the ending and jumped to conclusiobs... though to be fair, if I had something like that happen to me, my first reaction might be anger before I checked the rest of the program.
