Game The Most Disliked Season Finale

Taking VOY out of the competition with "Basics, Part I." I thought it was a great set-up; it had me totally engrossed. The scene between Chakotay and Kolopak was well-done; Henry Darrow gave a wonderful performance, and elevated Beltran in the process. Pity that the whole "learning to accept the child" thing proved to be moot -- but that didn't happen in this episode.

TAS Season 1: "The Jihad"
TNG Season 6: "Descent, Part I"
ENT Season 1: "Shockwave, Part I"
ENT Season 4: "These Are The Voyages..."
DIS Season 1: "Will You Take My Hand?"
DIS Season 2: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2"
DIS Season 3: "That Hope Is You, Part 2"
ST Season 1: "The Escape Artist"
ST Season 2: "Children Of Mars"
PIC Season 1: "Et In Arcardia Ego, Part 2"

Saving "TURNABOUT INTRUDER".

Both of them really nailed each other's roles.
Yes, but that's about all that...episode has going for it. Awful stuff. But to each their own.

"Descent, Part I", thus removing TNG from the scene. Could really have done without Lore and Nechayev, but it does have the poker scene with Newton, Einstein, Hawking and Data, and Beverly in command of the Enterprise. And the story wasn't bad.

TAS Season 1: "The Jihad"
ENT Season 1: "Shockwave, Part I"
ENT Season 4: "These Are The Voyages..."
DIS Season 1: "Will You Take My Hand?"
DIS Season 2: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2"
DIS Season 3: "That Hope Is You, Part 2"
ST Season 1: "The Escape Artist"
ST Season 2: "Children Of Mars"
PIC Season 1: "Et In Arcardia Ego, Part 2"

It features some truly insane plotting, particularly behind L'Rell's ascension to power.

Before I watched it the first time, I literally turned to my friend and said: "I hope it has a cliffhanger -- as long as it's not something stupid like 'then they they run into the Enterprise!'"

Burnham's final speech is embarrassingly overwritten.

BUT I watch it again and again for two reasons:

1. I can not get enough of the incredible production work on Qo'noS. So gorgeously realized and filled with clever detail.

2. That Burnham and Ash Tyler story was something else. I mean, overall it was obviously a problem the writers couldn't track who/what he was, but they had some scorching chemistry.

And this finale is especially something when it's serving both beats at once -- Burnham and Ash saying goodbye on that dirty street in the Orion District at dawn, a drunk or two passed out in the background. THAT SCENE IS INCREDIBLE.

"Will You Take My Hand?"

Saving "THE JIHAD".

It's the one I dislike the least out of all the remaining.

ENT Season 1: "Shockwave, Part I"
ENT Season 4: "These Are The Voyages..."
DIS Season 2: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2"
DIS Season 3: "That Hope Is You, Part 2"
ST Season 1: "The Escape Artist"
ST Season 2: "Children Of Mars"
PIC Season 1: "Et In Arcardia Ego, Part 2"

I didn't realise I was in the minority in enjoying Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2 - a gripping finale and strong ending to the second season (and indeed, an era of Discovery).

ENT Season 1: "Shockwave, Part I"
ENT Season 4: "These Are The Voyages..."
DIS Season 3: "That Hope Is You, Part 2"
ST Season 1: "The Escape Artist"
ST Season 2: "Children Of Mars"
PIC Season 1: "Et In Arcardia Ego, Part 2"

"Et In Arcardia Ego, Part 2". Not a fan of this ep but I've actually seen it so that puts it ahead of the others.

ENT Season 1: "Shockwave, Part I"
ENT Season 4: "These Are The Voyages..."
DIS Season 3: "That Hope Is You, Part 2"
ST Season 1: "The Escape Artist"
ST Season 2: "Children Of Mars"

These are some bad choices left. Two are terrible, one deals with awful Temporal Cold War, one is meh, and the other is just unforgivably horrendous.

I'll save the 'meh' one... "The Escape Artist".

ENT Season 1: "Shockwave, Part I"
ENT Season 4: "These Are The Voyages..."
DIS Season 3: "That Hope Is You, Part 2"
ST Season 2: "Children Of Mars"

I mostly love the Picard prequel, Children of Mars, so it's safe.

ENT Season 1: "Shockwave, Part I"
ENT Season 4: "These Are The Voyages..."
DIS Season 3: "That Hope Is You, Part 2"

ENT Season 1: "Shockwave, Part I"

Gotta save the first part of Shockwave, 'cause it's 10000x better than these other two.

ENT Season 4: "These Are The Voyages..."
DIS Season 3: "That Hope Is You, Part 2"

I stopped watching Enterprise toward the end of the second season (I think; it may have been slightly later) - the show just did nothing for me so it seemed silly to continue. But it's (very) slightly tempting to actually watch "These Are The Voyages..." (I've certainly read enough about it over the years) to see for myself how awful it is.

Edit: Accuracy.

I am a little surprised, in that "These Are The Voyages..." has done decently this cycle -- it's only won one prior time (the "Directed by Allan Kroeker" game).

But I certainly can't argue with it -- do I LOATHE "These Are The Voyages..." But I've also quite enjoyed that it's rarely a shoe-in, the randomness of these games being a key appeal for me.

And that completes the '22 - '23 cycle!

Thanks to all the players who made this such a consistently satisfying way to relax. :bolian: And especially thanks to @Farscape One for helping work out the lists.

I'll now be handing off to @BlueStuff , who will be running his Least Disliked games starting in the TOS forum. Thanks to @BlueStuff for such a long run with those! I got so obsessed with them, I had to come up with my own spin on it to keep them going in the off-years.

Final update to the Winner Board for the '22 - '23 cycle! I guess we have now proven, through rigorous application of a scientific method :guffaw:, that "Profit & Lace" really is the bottom of the Trek barrel.

Thanks for playing all, hope to continue seeing you in the elimination games @BlueStuff and @Farscape One will be running later this year.

I'll be back here in 2024 for another cycle of these. :bolian:

I think when you look hard at this, the fact that PIC only has 20 episodes (at the time these started), having 5 'wins' is really, really bad.

And DS9... if you take out "PROFIT AND LACE", it really only had 6 'wins'. That's actually pretty amazing, especially when stacked against TNG, who had only 2 more produced episodes, and got 13 'wins'.
