I continue to want to save all of them... or almost all of them.

I guess I'll go "Farewell." There is nothing Streaming Trek has struggled with harder than figuring out serialized storytelling (and they have now at last mastered it -- just in time for the big boom to end and the contraction to begin -- but hey, we still have a bunch of shows!) One of the things I found so exhilarating about Picard season 2 is actually that it really wobbled in the middle there -- and then righted the ship and actually stuck the landing.

Before, no other season of Streaming Trek had started to lose it, and then recovered. All preceding seasons of Disco & Picard had started to lose it, and then spiraled into exponential collapse.

So that made this a particularly exhilarating finale for me. Did I cry at all the Q scenes!

TNG Season 2: "Shades Of Gray"

The non-clip show bits are largely great. A real atmosphere of prevailing threat prevails, and not since "Planet of Evil" from Doctor Who in 1976 has an alien planet felt so authentic... and on a stage!!

The reason for the clips had to do with the writers' strike that clobbered what I'd argue is one of TNG's finest seasons.

For a rushed effort, SoG is underrated. Ignore the clips - just revel in the exploration of a truly creepy planet. We all know Riker survived to go play with strangers on Risa.

Kidding aside, I'm happy that you can find joy in "Shades of Grey." I actually like the non-clip parts of it, too, but I can't ignore the portions of the episode that are made up of clips. So far, Stargate SG-1 is the best serious use of clip shows I have seen, and The Simpsons has done some pretty funny stuff with theirs.

Totally agree, that is some planet set. All the water! "Shades Of Gray" was not in my rotation for decades, for obvious reasons, then when I went back to it I was stunned how good the framing sequence scenes were.

Sometimes these days my Star Trek viewing takes the form of jumping around to favorite scenes from episodes, and one day I had the exhilarating realization that I could have that clip-remix experience without having to actually scan for all the clips myself.

"Shades Of Gray" was just ahead of it's time. It's a YouTube playlist on shuffle.

Also, seasons 1 and 2 of TNG are one of my favorite Trek era's, but I often can't decide on any one episode to rewatch from it. That's another great occasion for "Shades Of Gray", it's a sampler platter of the whole era.

I am saving Voyager's "Endgame" with my first pick. It is my favorite episode of Voyager. It encapsulates so much of what I like about the show, teases the possible future of the Star Trek universe, and features the amazing Alice Krige as the Borg Queen.

I tend to be snarky, but "Endgame" is a lovely coda for VOY. I posted youtube clips in a recent post, but Janeway breaking the temporal prime directive was a pretty sweet idea, and one of the few ways that Trek could try to one-up "All Good Things", and more or less succeeds.

~ Ah, that was going to be my next save - great choice!

Instead, I'll go for VOY: "Hope And Fear". I don't rewatch many episodes of Voyager, but this is always on my list. Poor Arturis, his grief had clearly sent him over the edge, and I don't think he deserved the end that he seemingly got. But Dauntless was awesome, and it did help to get our crew that much closer to home.

A fantastic story. No EPIC multipart story. Nothing suspenseful. Just some solid ideas at work, deftly handled. It's easy to sympathize with Arturis, with a revenge-themed plot that feels authentic with build-up and payoff. That doesn't happen often; the only other times that worked for me were in 1982 and 1991...

Loved the Dauntless ship.

Redemption I continues the Klingon storyline which I was a huge fan of on TNG. The Sela part was a fun Twilight Zone moment.

Sela was a brilliant introduction to the franchise, and she starts out well. Her explanation is expertly handled. It's one of sci-fi's best-ever twists. The genre, not this show that resides in it. "Unification" wrecks it as she's reduced to a throwaway cartoon character.
