As Data is my favorite character (and the reason I became a scifi fan in the first place), I would be remiss if I didn't save at least one of his episodes.

"The Offspring" was just a beautiful episode. So many excellent scenes: Data teaching Lal, Data asking Crusher for parenting advice (And her disbelief that he is incapable of giving love: damn right, Doc!), Lal's final conversation with Data, and Data on the bridge saying how much she enriched his life.

DAMN IT... I'm starting to tear up just thinking this. At the end of day, a man lost his daughter. That's rough no matter who it happens to.

An easy save. (Though to be fair, pretty much the entire TNG list here is an easy save.) I also remember talking with Frakes when I met him and saying of all the episodes he directed (this was years before DISCO was even announced) that this was his favorite.

Star Trek's first fully-loaded attempt at light humor, TOS Season 2: "The Trouble With Tribbles," gets saved. Of all the TOS episodes, it is probably the most iconic, and it is really a great and unique little sci-fi story. The bar fight scene alone is worth the price of admission.

Saving "THE WAY OF THE WARRIOR".

In several ways, this was a new pilot for DS9. It had probably the most difficult job of all the season premieres... bring in an established TNG character to the show while not compromising the show or cast itself, build on last season, and still moves things forward.

Done flawlessly. Great action, great story, moved the show forward in a confident way... this episode was easily a 10.

Perfect way to start the best season in the franchise. (Thus far.)

Still so many excellent episodes left, so I'm going with my tried & tested "what would I watch right now?" method of choosing. And that means that TNG: "Cause And Effect" beats out any of the Lower Decks eps because I haven't seen it in ages (and I've only recently finished my fifty billionth LDS rewatch). I just think it's a really clever premise (and only one of Beverly's later glass-breaking moments was obviously ham-fisted) and rather creepily filmed. Excellent!

I'm going to rightfully wrap up TOS as the first series to be "out" of the contest by eliminating TOS Season 2: "The Ultimate Computer". This was one of the earlier "dangers of AI" sci-fi episodes in the franchise, and perhaps one of the best executed, as we see not just "the unhinged AI goes on a murdering spree," but we see the characters react to the very real possibility of becoming outdated in the shadow of this new technology. William Marshall gives a great performance as Richard Daystrom, who would become immortalized in later series and films.

Few LD eps have had me laughing harder than "Kayshon, His Eyes Open." Bringing a Tamarian onto LD was inspired, they really pulled it off, Kayshon is a brilliant character.

They did miss something having him be the first Tamarian in Starfleet, though. We've had enough first-whatevers-in-Starfleet! LD is the perfect place for the SECOND whatever in Starfleet, who has a whole inferiority complex about it.

I thought 2-parters normally get divided up?

I thought it was interesting it made a three-parter out of "Azati Prime"/"Damage"/"The Forgotten", but listed "The Forge" individually. It's right, that Vulcan three-parter really does tank as it goes along!
