Game The Most Disliked Hallucination/Illusion Episode

I love "Doctor's Order" for many reasons but if our topic is imagination / hallucination, which character or artist can be better than Dr. Phlox /John Billingsley for the main plot?

TAS, Season 1: "Once Upon A Planet"
TNG, Season 7: “Eye Of The Beholder”
DS9, Season 3: “Equilibrium”
VOY, Season 3: “Sacred Ground”
VOY, Season 3: “Coda”
VOY, Season 5: “The Fight”
ENT, Season 1: "Unexpected"
ENT, Season 1: "Oasis"
ENT, Season 3: “Extinction”
ENT, Season 3: "Exile"

Coda, because the funeral scene had some good writing and performances iirc.

TAS, Season 1: "Once Upon A Planet"
TNG, Season 7: “Eye Of The Beholder”
DS9, Season 3: “Equilibrium”
VOY, Season 3: “Sacred Ground”
VOY, Season 5: “The Fight”
ENT, Season 1: "Unexpected"
ENT, Season 1: "Oasis"
ENT, Season 3: “Extinction”
ENT, Season 3: "Exile"

For me it’s between Extreme Measures and Flesh and Blood. Jeri Ryan’s impression of Robert Picardo is awesome. But it’s a bit contrived. Whereas Extreme Measures way they show you Sloane’s internal thoughts and the visit to where he compartmentalized the family he left was beautiful. So that one.

What's left:

TAS, Season 1: "Once Upon A Planet"
TNG, Season 7: “Eye Of The Beholder”
DS9, Season 3: “Equilibrium”
VOY, Season 1: “Ex Post Facto”
VOY, Season 3: “Sacred Ground”
VOY, Season 3: “Coda”
VOY, Season 5: “The Fight”
VOY, Season 7: "Flesh And Blood"
ENT, Season 1: "Unexpected"
ENT, Season 1: "Oasis"
ENT, Season 3: “Extinction”
ENT, Season 3: "Exile"
ENT, Season 3: "Doctor's Orders"

That was not "FLESH AND BLOOD". That was "BODY AND SOUL", with The Doctor taking over Seven in her eyepiece while hiding. "FLESH AND BLOOD" was the two-part Hirogen episode with Iden and his rebel holograms.

I somehow missed that Equilibrium was on here. I love the music Jadzia plays in the episode, it's quite haunting.

I also love the opening scene with everyone round in Sisko's quarters where he is cooking. There is so much energy in that scene, and Odo's face is priceless whilst stirring something. :D

TAS, Season 1: "Once Upon A Planet"
TNG, Season 7: “Eye Of The Beholder”
VOY, Season 3: “Sacred Ground”
VOY, Season 5: “The Fight”
ENT, Season 1: "Unexpected"

ENT, Season 3: “Extinction”
ENT, Season 3: "Exile"

Dammit. Well, too late to take my vote back. But I still don't think "Flesh and Blood" was bad enough to be a final "loser," so hey, no real regrets.

This really is a suitably lousy line-up of finalists.

I will save "Unexpected", for how hot Bakula looks in that teaser where he loses gravity while in the shower.

TAS, Season 1: "Once Upon A Planet"
TNG, Season 7: “Eye Of The Beholder”
VOY, Season 3: “Sacred Ground”
VOY, Season 5: “The Fight”
ENT, Season 1: "Oasis"
ENT, Season 3: “Extinction”
ENT, Season 3: "Exile"

Sorry about that, two hologram episodes very close to each other in the run with similar names.

Well, I haven't seen TAS, all the ENT choices are from before I think it got watchable, and The Fight is terrible, so either Eye or Sacred Ground. I enjoyed Sacred Ground a lot more when I came back to it years later. But it's also one of those shows where it raises a question of faith in a world of science then cops out by giving both a scientific and a faith explanation so everyone can pick the one they want and that rubs me the wrong way. So removing Eye.

Anyway if Flesh and Blood was still in I'd remove that.

TAS, Season 1: "Once Upon A Planet"
VOY, Season 3: “Sacred Ground”
VOY, Season 5: “The Fight”
ENT, Season 1: "Oasis"
ENT, Season 3: “Extinction”
ENT, Season 3: "Exile"

This is a grim list.

I'll save "SACRED GROUND". It had some good scenes with Janeway, and was the directorial debut of Robert Duncan McNeill.

This will be my last vote on this poll. I have a hunch on the winner and the final three, but the list is so grim that I can't choose without inching toward my hunch. So for fairness' sake, this is my final vote because it's the last one I can honestly justify off.

TAS, Season 1: "Once Upon A Planet"
VOY, Season 5: “The Fight”
ENT, Season 1: "Oasis"
ENT, Season 3: “Extinction”
ENT, Season 3: "Exile"

OK, I now dare eliminate VOY, Season 5: “The Fight”

Not the strongest plot around, and not Beltran's strongest outing, but I select this episode because I like its utterly bizarro atmosphere and look & feel of some imagery sequences. I guess, the plot element of seeing Chakotay struggling between keeping his sanity and giving in to his condition, with realising he must do both at the same time if he wants to have any prayer of a chance to save his ship, makes the straddling of the script itself between these two (sanity and insanity) somehow a bit more acceptable to me. Also boosts some great performances (as usual) by the EMH.

TAS, Season 1: "Once Upon A Planet"
ENT, Season 1: "Oasis"
ENT, Season 3: “Extinction”
ENT, Season 3: "Exile"

I will eliminate "Once Upon A Planet", because TAS is pretty bad, but they were trying so goddamn hard I just have to give them an A for effort. It really feels like the budget of each episode is 10 cents, but they gave it their best! (If the truth is that they actually had the highest animated budget in history at that point, please don't tell me :bolian:)

ENT, Season 1: "Oasis"
ENT, Season 3: “Extinction”
ENT, Season 3: "Exile"

Exile is slightly better by the virtue of being a rare Hoshi episode.

ENT, Season 1: "Oasis"
ENT, Season 3: “Extinction”

While I have my distinct preferences between those two, I already picked the last one in the previous game, so I'm not going to pick the final one this time....

Well somebody grab that final elimination! I'm not eligible. I am pretty pleased with the next list and am eager to post... :bolian::beer:

Extinction was so awful.

I was rooting for The Fight to win, but I guess even that has a little more substance to it than whatever warmed over script this was.

It was a little like if TNG's Identity Crisis had a baby with VOY's Threshold.

I behold that the following should be saved:

TNG, Season 7: “Eye Of The Beholder”

It was sorta cool to see the (out-of-perspective?) nacelle interior with coil array... Given the exterior ship model has windows, it makes sense they'd have to get there to do maintenance checks.

It's still got a cheesy plot borrowed perhaps too heavily from a Twilight Zone ep, the silly shipping subplot was not needed at all, but it still had a couple moments.

What remains:

TAS, Season 1: "Once Upon A Planet"
DS9, Season 3: “Equilibrium”
VOY, Season 3: “Sacred Ground”
VOY, Season 3: “Coda”
VOY, Season 5: “The Fight”
ENT, Season 1: "Unexpected"
ENT, Season 3: "Exile"

I can agree with the final elimination. Just rewatched extinction and it's really, really bad.

I'm glad though the Borg didn't get their hands on that virus, as it seems a good deal more effective than their standard methods. All they 'd have to do (after adapting the virus) is release it somewhere near an important trading hub and presto, 50 new species assimilated in no time with no loss to them ...

I figured "THE FIGHT" would win, but I do have to give credit that the idea of Chaotic Space was new and innovative. Everything else just fell apart.

I figured "CODA" and "EXTINCTION" would round out the fibal 3.

One out of three ain't bad, I guess...

"Extinction" is certainly a suitably terrible winner. And I just realized "Oasis" is the last Trek work of Rene Auberjonois, and we won't get anything past this, so now I feel more sentimentally disposed towards it.

Poor Voyager and Enterprise, tied with three eps each among the winners.

MOST DISLIKED WINNERS, 2020

SEASON PREMIERE: TNG, Season 7: "Descent, Part II"
HOLODECK: VOY, Season 6: "Fair Haven"
TIME TRAVEL/ANOMALY/LOOP: VOY, Season 6: “Fury”
Q: VOY, Season 7: "Q2"
VISIT TO EARTH'S "PRESENT": ENT, Season 2: "Shockwave, Part II"
HALLUCINATION/ILLUSION: ENT, Season 3: "Extinction"
VISIT TO EARTH'S PAST: ENT, Season 4: "Storm Front, Part I"

Thanks for playing, all! Hope to see you on the next one, a substantial revision of a list we played last time: "The Most Disliked Introduction Of Recurring Star Trek Aliens"
