Game The Most Disliked Ferengi Episode

Hm. I remember it. Not Star Trek's proudest moment. I guess it was (barely) acceptable in the 90s or whatever.

Is Profit and Lace the one where Quark goes trans for lolz?

Essentially. It also begins with a "funny" scene of Quark explicitly extorting an employee for sex, if she wants to keep her job. We return to this for an equally "funny" final scene where she reveals she wanted it and she finds the idea of being forced to jerk off her boss to keep her livelihood quite ALLURING (and her name was Allura. Hysterical, right?) It makes you think Ronan Farrow should start calling any female support staff that worked on DS9 at the time.

AND THIS ALL MALE WRITER STAFF THOUGHT THEY WERE MAKING AN EPISODE ABOUT FEMINISM.

There's also a whole other sequence of rape comedy in the middle.

The message of that abomination was:
1. You don't gain female equality by years of hard work by legions of determined women... you gain it by one woman banging the big boss.

Damn, I thought I had already catalogued all the many, many ways "Profit & Lace" is offensive, but I missed that one.

Dang, I missed this one!

Granted, the one that deserved the title more than deserves it - comedy is often used to soften issues, just look at any of the shows Norman Lear worked on in the 1970s, but in this episode it falls flatter than a pancake and thinner than the amount of matter in a pancake spread across the diameter of a "quantum singularity". On the plus side, if there's a "quantum mariedity" that's about to separate, find out the other was cheating with a kinky little quasar, then the universe needs to duck for cover...

"Menage a Troi" is, in some ways, cringe, but - dang - Ethan Phillips as the evil Doctor and he's playing it with a malicious intent rather than camping it up (the episode had plenty of humor, it needed some balance and he gave it) -- that alone is a huge saving grace as the scenes where he threatens just seep through the TV screen and get at ya. Not too surprised it wasn't saved earlier, but that would have been my third save or so...

Would "Move Along Home" be considered a Ferengi episode, since it revolves around Quark more than usual, at least for season 1 standards? (Seems gray area at best but thought I'd ask...)

Much thanks to you and @Farscape One for putting together these contests!! :luvlove:

Thing is, I don't think there is even any serious or comedic commentary on an "issue" in Profit and Lace. It feels more like one of those really old vaudeville sketches were the whole joke is "hurhuhur man in dress hurhuhur"
Which really, was a bad idea even by 90s standards, I think.

I like to think there was a statement in the episode, especially considering how Ferengi women were treated, but - yeah - it's all superficial and played up solely for cheap joke factor. Either which way the episode can't really be justified as the issue still has to remain serious at some level. In P&L, I didn't get that vibe at all and your phrasing of the episode does sum it up by far the best.

I thought about it, but my feeling was that the focus of "Move Along Home" was sufficiently split among non-Ferengi characters that it didn't quite make the cut. There is such a large role for the in-game characters, and that part of the story feels equivalent to the outside-the-game characters.

Much thanks to you and @Farscape One for putting together these contests!!
And thank you for playing!

You think that.
I think that.
@Ray Hardgrit thinks that.

But does everyone?

Hey, in this game it only takes one. That's the beauty of it. :bolian:

The real credit goes to Sakonna. I simply double check the lists and give some thoughts on adding or taking out some episodes. Sakonna puts in the hard work of creating the ideas, figuring out the parameters, and making the lists.

Awww, thanks everybody! Glad you like them. And tbh, I find putting the lists together a weirdly soothing activity, so I'm very appreciative there's an audience who actually wants to play them!
