Game The Most Disliked Episode With Matriarchal Aliens

It is definitely a flawed episode, but I really like where "Sanctuary's" heart is at. And that FINAL SCENE -- my god! It's such a devastating, perfect moment.

They really needed something in the setup to make it so that the Skreean's were SCREWED if Bajor didn't take them. The Star Trek universe is filled with lovely, uninhabited planets, and the Skreean's have ships, so they really can just go find one of those, in a way that human refugees cannot in actual reality, so it harms the power of the metaphor.

Still, I just try to ignore that, and then I can love the episode pretty easily.

TNG Season 3: "The Price"
VOY Season 7: "Unimatrix Zero, Part II"
ENT Season 1: "Shockwave, Part I"
ENT Season 3: "The Council"
ENT Season 3: "Countdown"
ENT Season 3: "Zero Hour"

It's always fun trying to keep up with the photo finish posts. :techman:

I'm sure at one time three people voted to save the same episode at the same time.

Speaking of! :bolian: These last three eliminations were basically all posted simultaneously...

He's so good, it's worth to say thrice!

TNG, Season 3: "Ménage à Troi"

Ethan Phillips whips out his big acting chops to make the most memorable evil Ferengi of the bunch. I adumbrated this story before (as with "Manhunt") but Lwaxana setting up Picard to fight for her is hysterical and Majel Barrett always puts out every line Lwaxana has with relish and panache, regardless if the episode is classic/excellent/good/fair/meh/poor/blech or otherwise. That takes some good acting and sorta proves Majel really could hold a show.

What's left:
TNG Season 3: "The Price"
DS9 Season 2: "Sanctuary"
VOY Season 7: "Unimatrix Zero, Part II"
ENT Season 1: "Shockwave, Part I"
ENT Season 3: "The Council"
ENT Season 3: "Countdown"
ENT Season 3: "Zero Hour"

"Sanctuary" was accidentally re-added, so just reposting to remove... :bolian:

Also just realized "Angel One" was accidentally deleted without being eliminated, so restoring it...

TNG Season 1: "Angel One"
TNG Season 3: "The Price"
VOY Season 7: "Unimatrix Zero, Part II"
ENT Season 1: "Shockwave, Part I"
ENT Season 3: "The Council"
ENT Season 3: "Countdown"
ENT Season 3: "Zero Hour"

Saving VOY Season 7: "Unimatrix Zero, Part II"
No more for the fact of I adore Voyager and can't bear to see it the last one xD

But no, it's good to watch any fuck up of the Borg Queen, plus it's a turning point for Seven which wasn't all bad.

TNG Season 3: "The Price"
ENT Season 1: "Shockwave, Part I"
ENT Season 3: "The Council"
ENT Season 3: "Countdown"
ENT Season 3: "Zero Hour"

Cooties.

TNG Season 3: "The Price"

Let's just get this out of the way quick:

Eww.

But first, let's get the best moment of the story out of the way first:

Dang, that's morbid. But listen to that music - it's so complementary to the scene and not overtaking it. :luvlove: Thankfully they'd find the USS Voyager a few years later...

As usual, the teaser teases a real plot by supplanting it with that surefire way to rake in viewers --

gratuitous sex! On Staaaaaaaaaaaar Trek, The Next Generation!

Wow, so much dumping of exposition and even spoiling the episode! Amazed they didn't discuss how he poisoned everyone else too. This episode makes "Transfigurations" look like a classic but that one's not about family. Just guys in really tight and revealing outfits... but it's not the worst in the whole list either... :scared:

Bonus: If I recall correctly, Matt "big bedroom eyes" McCoy played a priest in an episode of "The Golden Girls". Of course, Monte Markham played Blanche's gay cousin while also being a priest in "He Who Is Without sin" of DS9 fame... infame? infamy? famy?

What's left at the VD clinic:

ENT Season 1: "Shockwave, Part I"
ENT Season 3: "The Council"
ENT Season 3: "Countdown"
ENT Season 3: "Zero Hour"

"Angel One" was accidentally deleted without being eliminated not once but twice. :) But let me now officially eliminate it.

Obviously, A LOT is wrong with this one. But I do find something bold and refreshing in just how feminized they allow the men to be. That is really rare, I feel like today no one would do that.

Plus, the Riker chest hair. That helps a lot.

ENT Season 1: "Shockwave, Part I"
ENT Season 3: "The Council"
ENT Season 3: "Countdown"
ENT Season 3: "Zero Hour"

My final vote for this game is "THE COUNCIL".

A lot happened here, and the tension throughout was well done.

(I'm confident I know which one will 'win'.)

ENT Season 1: "Shockwave, Part I"
ENT Season 3: "Countdown"
ENT Season 3: "Zero Hour"

Countdown is a tense follow up to The Council, setting the scene nicely my for Zero Hour.

I feel that Zero Hour is a bit too flawed at the end to have me vote to save it.

ENT Season 1: "Shockwave, Part I"
ENT Season 3: "Zero Hour"

men and women alike as all being dominated by the Teacher
Spock was supposedly going to be the operating system for devices, and not directioning their society. The teacher was a temp source of information, not a ruler over the women.

True. But how would an organic blop inside an immobile machine do a better job than just a machine with one extra co-processor, much less different species having different tender innards that don't always react the same after a certain point.

Then again, it is said some societies had numerous advances yet never fathomed "the wheel" so it's not impossible that they'd create machinery for an advanced environmental system, but not the electronics to automate the control... yet developed advanced neural interfaces for both controlling systems as well as being fed knowledde as needed. The underlying "why" is also not told but the audience can guess what they like and the episode almost hints at a few possibilities, which snowballed and splintered as time went on that led to the mess they were in when Kirk and the gang showed up.

Or it's just a poor script made as a dare because the writer decided everyone else was taking the show "too seriously" and did it as a dare and as a mockery.

I am THIS close to saving "Shockwave" and making "Zero Hour" the winner, in that I find so many things about "Zero Hour" ENRAGING. I do not like it AT ALL. My only emotion watching it is immense disappointment, it offers me none of the satisfaction I was hoping for from the end of the Xindi arc. That cliffhanger is possibly one of my most hated moments in the entire franchise. That flashforward to Archer creating the Federation is also astoundingly stupid, and terribly executed.

"Zero Hour"'s overall rep is so good and "Shockwave”’s rep so terrible, I was surprised to realize I myself hate them equally!

BUT I am going to let list theme decide the day on this one. "Zero Hour" does at least feature the awesome (though poorly used) Sphere Builders. Meanwhile, the fact that "Shockwave's" treatment of a matriarchal alien society is to leave them the totally unseen subject of dumb jokes, before they are all incinerated off-camera, is just too perfect a comment on Berman Trek's track record towards any sort of feminist issues writ large. So, "Shockwave Part I" is our winner!

The 4th total win for "Shockwave", Part II having won two previous games, and both parts taking the crown for Most Disliked Two-Hour/Two-Parter.

Thanks for playing all! I'll be posting a directors list next: "The Most Disliked Episode Directed By James L. Conway" Hope to see you all there!
