The MOST Disliked Episode of TNG - Season Six...

Farscape One

Admiral

This is a twist on a game that is played here, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I am very curious to see the results.

Here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your most favorite or the one you deem the 'best.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, wait six hours and leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win. Pretty simple. Enjoy!

I will start by saving "Chain Of Command, Part II" on the strength of Sir Patrick Stewart's performance alone, along with David Warner. If there is any one episode to watch to showcase his acting chops, it is THIS episode. He should have won an Emmy... at least be nominated.

Tapestry. Contains one of the show's best morals, and strong performances even by the regular standards of Stewart and De Lancie.

Timescape is a real meat-and-potatoes Trek episode, elevated above the rest of that pack with perfect execution. It's such a cleverly conceived anomaly, and that makes the problem-solving of our heroes unusually engrossing.

I also like that it's such a strong showcase for Troi as a skilled Starfleet officer. Her experience in "Face Of The Enemy" has made her the expert on Romulans, so she gets to do the technobabble. That move where Geordi is dying and she pulls off his armband to freeze him in time is a great bit of in-the-moment crisis thinking, and Troi was rarely point in those situations.

I'm removing "Second Chances". Even though it could have been handled better, it's a nice view into what could have been for Riker had he taken some chances.

Face of the Enemy gets my vote. This was one of Marina Sirtis’ best performances, and Scott MacDonald did a great job in what was his first of many Trek roles.

And it had a terrific score by Don Davis. Released on Volume 1 (as I recall) from La La Land Records.

I'm saving The Chase, the science made no sense and the message at the end a bit cheesy but I don't care, the chase itself was a lot of fun, it was a classic treasure hunt, the type of story I really enjoy.

Ship In A Bottle, the long awaited sequel to Elementary Dear Data, MUST BE SAVED.

I am in the right "Frame Of Mind" to save this episode. It was one of the best performances by Frakes during the series, and a really cool concept.

Starship Mine. Sure, there aren't really any high concepts or philosophical debates here, but sometimes, all it takes is some good action and dialogue!

Birthright Part 1 was a great cross-over episode. It's too bad that we never saw Data and Bashir team up again, or see the Enterprise at DS9 (outside of Emissary).

I thought "A Fistful of Datas" was funny as hell. By the time Brent came sashaying down the stairs as the floozy, I was laughing out loud.

I thought "Relics" was a beautiful episode. And I don't even really care for Scotty that much as a character (or Geordi, for that matter!), so it was surprising to be so touched by it.

Also, these people found a lot of cool ruins of dead civilizations, but the Dyson Sphere might be my favorite.

Schisms. Such an interesting mystery. Plus those clicking sounds are some of the stand out audio effects of the series. You can’t think of the episode without hearing those clicks.

I'm going to save "Rascals". Always had a soft spot for this one - Star Trek, by and large, is a pretty serious show and it's nice to sometimes just have a ridiculous plot that gives me some smiles.

There was some humour from Picard (love his hug with Riker, as well as when the older Picard checks his hairline after being returned to normal!) and I actually liked Guinan's line about crayons being able to take you to more places than a starship. It's never going to be in anyone's "top 10 or 20" episodes, but it doesn't deserve to be the worst of season six either...

I am putting away "Realm Of Fear". I have always enjoyed Barclay's appearances, and I think this was one of his strongest. Plus, we finally get to see what going through a transporter actually looks like, something that always intrigued me.
