The MOST Disliked Episode of TNG - Season Seven...

Farscape One

Admiral

This is a twist on a game that is played here, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I am very curious to see the results.

Here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your most favorite or the one you deem the 'best.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, wait six hours and leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win. Pretty simple. Enjoy!

I am starting things off by saving a favorite of mine... "Masks". I love mythology, and this episode is chock full of myth. I thought the idea of changing the ship into an ancient city was quite interesting, and at the time when it aired, quite original. This is a Joe Menosky gem, with his mythology trademark very much in the forefront.

I'm saving All Good Things, it was an incredible episode, the perfect finale and a great sci-fi plot.

Parallels. Such a fun episode, and perfect for the last season... there's so much show history to reference in the various timelines. Nice to see Worf used in this kind of story, since usually every Worf episode also had to be about other Klingon's, honor, combat, etc.

I'm removing "Phantasms" because of that hair-raising, all though short, scene of Data stabbing Troi. That'll teach her to tell people to handle a transport ship.

Lower Decks was a creatively structured episode with a terrific plot and ending. Absolutely one of the best of the season.

The Pegasus. Leaving aside the clunky explanation of why the Federation doesn't use cloaking devices, it's one of Riker's finest hours on the show, and John Debney's score is a cut above the usual "sonic wallpaper" from this era, being one of the few post-Ron Jones scores I can actually remember bits from.

Gambit Part1. Picard’s dead and Riker turns rogue, really good mystery story.

I will save "Thine Own Self". It is a shame Data didn't retain any memories of his time on the planet, but I really enjoyed how he helped those people despite having no memories. He really is a hero. And I also loved Troi's Bridge Officer exam. A little late in the series for her to be doing command level things, but better late than never. At least she can stretch her role a bit.

Wow. What's left is a real bag, save for two stories.

I'll rescue Preemptive Strike. Yes, nobody can agree on how to pronounce "hasperat", but it's a real downer (in a good way) to close Ro's character development arc, since she wasn't going to be in DS9 :(. (Though Kira was quick to grow on me, I still have moments of wishing she would have been Ro as it would have meant less character building time... both are great, it's as simple as that.)

What's left:

Sub Rosa. It really hits a transcendent level of so-bad-it's-good.... so-bad-it's-sublime. It's on my most-rewatched list with the greats (Yesterday's Enterprise, Best Of Both Worlds, etc), and even after seeing it a billion times I still laugh my head off in every viewing. I also just have to respect everyone's commitment... the insane Scottish accents, Gates McFadden is not holding back while she's rolling around on the floor getting orgasms from a candle, etc.

Attached. I wish the episode had gone a little further than it did with the Picard/Beverly stuff, but what we did get worked well enough to carry the story.

I'm removing "Eye of the Beholder" because it gives Troi something to do -- a solve a murder mystery. That's the best I think I can say about it.

I can no longer participate in removing titles -- there is nothing else that I can say good things about.

Gambit Part 2. It's to bad that CBS didn't re-edit this into a 90-minute Blu-Ray. Suffice it to say but both parts make a great mystery story. Plus it really gave us great insight into how Picard and Riker could work without the rest of the Enterprise crew, and how Data could handle command of the Enterprise.

I have deleted Genesis from the list. It's a classic Brannon Braga riff on an old horror movie trope. My favourite part is when Worf gobs in Beverly's face.

I will save "Liaisons" pretty much entirely on the strength of Worf's subplot. Watching him try to keep control in the face of deliberate provocation was funny.

I will shed a light on the "Dark Page". It was a very sad episode, and explains a lot of Lwaxana's behavior and her overbearingness toward Deanna. And I think it was well acted on her part.

I’ll save “Firstborn”. As much as I loathe Alexander, I enjoyed James Sloyan’s portrayal of the character.

I think "Inheritance" is a lovely episode. And a hell of a guest performance from Fionnula Flanagan.
