The Most Disliked Episode of TNG - Season 7...

Here is what I want to know. They throw horrible banquets, they violate treaties and The Prime Directive, and the promotion to their rank is considered a death sentence. What has Star Trek against Admirals? If their job is so useless why have them? I guess they are only useful in war?

"Sub Rosa" is truly a favorite of mine. Trek's most successful comedy! I think this and "Yesterday's Enterprise" may be my two most rewatched TNG eps.

Descent, Part II
Liaisons
Interface
Gambit, Part II
Force of Nature
Inheritance
Homeward
Thine Own Self
Eye of the Beholder
Genesis
Journey's End
Bloodlines
Emergence

I'll save "Thine Own Self." I'm not terribly excited by the story of amnesiac Data and the radioactive fragments, but Troi getting promoted is very important.

Descent, Part II
Liaisons
Interface
Gambit, Part II
Force of Nature
Inheritance
Homeward
Eye of the Beholder
Genesis
Journey's End
Bloodlines
Emergence

I'll save "Gambit II," which struck me as clever if improbable, and it was nice to see different sides of Picard and Riker.

Descent, Part II
Liaisons
Interface
Force of Nature
Inheritance
Homeward
Thine Own Self
Eye of the Beholder
Genesis
Journey's End
Bloodlines
Emergence

I'll be (Fleet) Captain Obvious and say that intelligent, reasonable, and effective admirals don't generate much in the way of plot conflict.

I'll save "Homeward" as it is IMO the most interesting episode of the ones left. Worf's brother is an interesting character as he voices many of the viewers' objections to the so-called prime directive aka general order one.

Descent, Part II
Liaisons
Interface
Force of Nature
Inheritance
Thine Own Self
Eye of the Beholder
Genesis
Journey's End
Bloodlines
Emergence

Homeward has to be my least favorite example of how TNG applied the Prime Directive.

I'll save Inheritance. Fionnula Flanagan is a delight as Data's mother.

Descent, Part II
Liaisons
Interface
Force of Nature
Thine Own Self
Eye of the Beholder
Genesis
Journey's End
Bloodlines
Emergence

"Genesis" Another one that's fun nonsense. Spooky de-evolved monsters, love it.

Descent, Part II
Liaisons
Interface
Force of Nature
Eye of the Beholder
Journey's End
Bloodlines
Emergence

"Liaisons" because of the funny ambassadors and what they make Worf and Picard endure. I didn't care for the Troi part though...

Descent, Part II
Interface
Force of Nature
Eye of the Beholder
Journey's End
Bloodlines
Emergence

I'll be honest... it's hard to save any at this point. I'll give "Interface" a reprieve because we got to see Geordi's Starfleet parents.

Descent, Part II
Force of Nature
Eye of the Beholder
Journey's End
Bloodlines
Emergence

Not much to recommend in any of these, but I'll save "Bloodlines" for evoking a bit of continuity in the form of Bok, and for bringing his story to a close.

Descent, Part II
Force of Nature
Eye of the Beholder
Journey's End
Emergence

"Eye of the Beholder" because it's the least unwatchable among the ones left.

Descent, Part II
Force of Nature
Journey's End
Emergence

Saving Descent, by process of elimination. At least they staged the rescue rather well, and took the Borg in a more interesting direction than Voyager.

Force of Nature
Journey's End
Emergence

I disliked Wil Wheaton's performance but I liked the frontier politics of Journey's End, which is portrayed as anything but clean and neat.

Force of Nature
Emergence

Yeah, I agree that it's pretty mediocre. I don't think it's as bad as Sub Rosa, Masks or Force of Nature, but it's clear that in S7 the writers were out of gas. My recent rewatch made me place S2 just ahead of it.

Sometimes I pretend if Voyager was never made and the TNG films never came about, or possibly at a later date, just to see what it would be like. ;)

I kinda sorta like "Emergence." They don't really pull it off, but I like the intent, and I think the crew dynamics during it are engaging. And Troi gets to be useful, always something I respond to.
