The Most Disliked Episode of TNG - Season 3...

There's some problems with "The Bonding" ("Jeremy, on the starship Enterprise, no one is alone. Except you, who we will now leave alone. Enjoy the videos of your dead mom!"), but I think it basically works and I liked the direct grappling with what the experiences for kids would be on this endlessly imperiled ship, with death looming at every turn.

The Survivors
Booby Trap
The Enemy
The Price
The Hunted
A Matter of Perspective
Menage a Troi
Transfigurations

"The Survivors" survives. Aside from a good story and mystery, I thought it was an excellent showcase of Picard and his detective skills. He figured the whole thing out pretty much solo.

It was a blah episode, but the teaser with Data critiquing Picard's painting was one of the best scenes in Trek. A matter of perspective is eliminated.

I like A Matter of Perspective too. It aired on my 10th birthday, a week before Yesterday's Enterprise. At that age, I found Yesterday's Enterprise confusing, but A Matter of Perspective easy to follow.

I like the subtle differences between each witness's take on the events, such as Apgar's version where he beats up Riker, a man twice his size.

"You're a dead man, Apgar, a dead man!"

I'll spring "Booby Trap," because it has one of my favorite little moments in all TNG: the "didn't anyone else ever build a ship in a bottle" conversation. I'll never forget how the others all look at O'Brien (who had) as if to say "suck-up!"

There were a bunch of Wesley saves the day episodes in season 3 too. Just looking at the episodes left: The Enemy and Menage a Troi.

The Enemy really should be gone by now. Three plotlines that merge effortlessly, a great Picard, Geordi, and Worf episode.

The Price
The Hunted
Menage A Troi
Transfigurations

I don't love it so much anymore, but I loved "Menage A Troi" as a kid and thus still retain some residual fondness for it. Meanwhile, "Transfigurations" is probably the single most boring TNG ep, "The Price" has one of the grossest and most off-putting ROTW's in all of Trek, and "The Hunted" is just kind of meh (it suffers a lot from it's similarity and proximity to the superior "The High Ground").

So, "Menage A Troi" it is. It does a nice job of taking two compromised storytelling assets -- Lwaxana and the Ferengi -- and using them to patch the shortcomings of the other. And it was nice to see Betazed.

I will find "The Hunted". I actually really enjoy the episode, and gives a good message of the need to take better care of our veterans who fight for our causes.

The Price
Transfigurations

I'll save The Price. It's bad, but at least it doesn't have dialogue like what they asked the guest actor to say in Transfigurations.

So Transfigurations is our "winner".

The 'winner' of season 3 is "Transfigurations". I think it took the prize the last time we did a season 3 of this game.

I'll be starting season 4 in a bit.
