I'm OK with "Unexpected." It's a mess, it's starting to abandon the entire series setup in only the 4th episode, the episode premise is mishandled (at best) and offensive (at worst)... but I still like several things about it. The aliens are interesting. It does provide a strong showcase for Trip, in the sense that Connor Trineer is making favorable impressions throughout -- you can see him elevating the material, every line from him lands better than it should reasonably have been expected too. He is trying to find a very, very narrow path through this one, and he does, and I'm always impressed by successful acting with such a high degree of difficulty.

Oy, now we're at the point where everything is in the range from "bad" to "below average." I'll save "Up The Long Ladder", for at least being memorably bonkers. This one is top-to-bottom INSANE, I cannot fathom what they were thinking.

[Bad Thoughts]

Saving Two Days and Two Nights. Two of the three stories are terrible. However, I found Hoshi's rather low key story to have some charm, and despite being a story about a one dimensional character who loves languages, it was nice to see a woman get a romp that doesn't make her look slutty. And the doctor had some nice gags.

Saving Once Upon a Time. I actually genuinely like the episode. It's a good example of the writing team doing Neelix right, allowing Ethan Phillips to use his full repertoire as an actor. I also always thought Scarlett Pomers did good work as Naomi Wildman, and helped to carry this episode.

I'm saving "A Night In Sickbay". I watched it not too long ago, and apart from Archer's annoyingness, found it rather lovely. Porthos was suberb as always, and I love seeing the Kreetassans - such an amazing look!
