Game The Most Disliked Comedic/Light-Hearted Episode

I just need to save Hollow Pursuits.

It's in my opinion, the only good holodeck episode. The holodeck characters, for once, actually behave fairly similar to video game NPCs (like Goddess!Troi endlessly repeating her one line) and it's for once a creative use for the holodeck in a sotry and diving into it's implications.
Ina ddition to that the episode is just funny. Barclay, Guinan...Troi's reaction to seeing the "Goddess of Empathy"

"The Trouble With Tribbles" is that all of the stories involving them are still on this list. In the words of Mr. Baris, that's a travesty! One of Trek's greatest comedies, TTWT had a clever script, great timing, and wonderful interactions between the crew. And it spawned one of DS9's funnier outings (and the best TOS homage this side of Galaxy Quest), the brilliant "Trials and Tribble-ations."

So removing it from this list will be no tribble at all.

Family Business!
We get Iska, the woman who single-handedly started Ferengi women's lib. We get insight into Quark and Rom's upbringing and family dynamics. (Sure we could have done without that one scene were Ishka gets naked, but it's at least short)
And if that wasn't enough, it's the introduction of Kasidy Yates another interesting female character for DS9.

Lots of my favorite capers already eliminated, but that's my own damn fault for not looking in the General Trek subforum for awhile.

I'm going to go with DS9's Explorers though. Not a funny episode, but a great, relatively low-stakes episode built around the love between Ben and Jake. Plus we get to see O'Brien and Bashir drunk and singing together. Not bad, not bad at all.

Looking to "light-spirited" rather than outright comedy, I'm coming to the rescue of "Concerning Flight," a heart warming story of a girl and her hologram cute and sweetly improbable tale. Doesn't hurt that it pairs Kate Mulgrew (who shows a great deal of warmth here) with one of my favorite character actors, the incomparable John Rhys-Davies, who shines as the irascible yet vulnerable Leonardo. I always enjoyed Rhys-Davies's episodes, and this is emphatically no exception.

Author, Author is another great comedy from VOY.

The Doctor's program is funny enough, seeing his, albeit tweaked, pretty twisted views of his role as an EMH during the crews' mission. But then Paris gets involved, the fun really starts.

The issue with the Doctor's rights borrows heavily from The Measure of a Man, yet I can't help but not mind as the trial is still a great conclusion to the episode.

Evdryone keeps saving my favorites.

My next save is "Peak Performance".

This was one of the very best of early TNG, and of the entire series, really. PERFECTLY uses EVERY character. This was a true ensemble episode, and too many great scenes to put in a single post, but my favorite moment might go to Picard's final advice to Data.

"It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That's not a fallacy. It's life." Among the best Picard quotes, and they always had great scenes together.

Always a rewatch.

I'm gonna save I, Mudd. I know it's a problematic episode for a few reasons, but many many of the sketches / skits from the crew interacting with the robots tickle my absurdist funnybone.

"You went to substantial risk and effort to bring a starship here. Logically, you must have a compelling motive."

Gonna go out on a limb and save DS9’s “His Way”.

I remember how divisive this episode was upon airing, and how many people LOATHED Vic Fontaine. But I always loved him, even if he became a little overused. While you could argue that Odo and Kira were written a little out of character to fit the plot, this is still one of the most joyous, comforting and uplifting episodes of Trek in my opinion, particularly funny considering how dark and depressing DS9 was considered back in the day. I love the music, the atmosphere, and Rene Auberjonois is a joy to behold as Odo lets his icy “Nanook of the North” exterior melt. I think I was also in a minority who actually liked the Odo/Kira pairing and found it became one of the more mature and touching relationships in Trek. I still want to cry when I think of them parting on the banks of the Great Link.

I also loved "HIS WAY" and Vic Fontaine, so even if you are in the minority, which I doubt as the years go by, you are not alone.

I will save "YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED" next. PERFECTLY placed directly after the Dominion occupation of DS9. It was a celebration, not just for the audience but for the crew, too, after their hard fought victory.

A truly fun episode from start to finish, too many lines and scenes to post.

But two of my favorite things stand out.

Nog's cat-like dance... and O'Brien and Bashir anxiously waiting to 'attack' the newly married couple.

This episode was just pure joy.

Nine hundred years from now today, and a few centuries ago,

TOS Season 1: “The Squire Of Gothos”​

would take place.

I loved the use of actual science being an underfoot to how Trelane was peeping in on humanity from his location.

Trelane's said to use machinery (mechanics) and the mirror being a power source (and how it exploded into a matte painting) was proven (partially?) incorrect, since Trelane still had powers and that section of the planet was still quite habitable.

Trelane, obvious spiritual precursor to the Q, is quite entertaining. But more outright evil than being a trickster a la Lokai (as Q would be), as he lets Kirk breathe in the natural atmosphere for a time - while everyone else gets a good listen. (wow)

But he has a mommy and daddy and he's badly abusing his pet rabid poodles, and it's late for dinner and he needs to do his bedtime chores and in one of 60s Trek's more embarrassing revelations/"reveals". All in an episode that features a noose lit from behind to cast a shadow that would scare thousands of kids all the way to the bathroom in 1966. And still looks sufficiently disturbing now.

This episode is rather a partial copy of "Charlie X" in some ways, but with the insertion the entertaining Trelane (wearing the same coat Michael Nesmith wore on "The Monkees" in that one episode), and - of course - with use of real science behind seeing Earth (at a distance of 900 light years, getting the mannerisms of UK 1400AD as a cheap thrill to save on costuming budget).

Still, it's a fun and highly enjoyable outing. Similar plot, different elements and nuances make it enough of its own.

"The Trouble With Edward." This was great, and I really was not expecting a Short Trek to casually knit together a bunch of offhand Tribbles jokes from over the decades into a single coherent origin narrative! A very fun, clever piece of work.

Especially as it showed every pre-Kirk 23rd century humans as being "rough around the edges". It's a story that's a pure and complete opposite of "Hollow Pursuits", if not an antithesis of. That in concept I find far more interesting than the problem that a human created Tribbles in their known form (when do the Klingons make war crimes allegations against Scotty and Kirk anyway, given the ending of "The Trouble with Tribbles"?). But a human creating them is a tad too SUS for me (Small Universe Syndrome). But it does make a reasonable sense and not just as a biological weapon that Dr McCoy and Scotty would discover. Of course, TNG's "The Chase" is also SUS - but not in a human-centric model as such. More a humanoid-centric model... of course, production costs to show non-humanoid life forms is impracticable...
