The Morgan Freeman Chain of Command

This explains a lot. I had not considered just how many different levelsof command had been occupied by Hollywood's "Mr-Everywhere-Man".

Link.

Invictus puzzles me. Morgan Freeman playing Nelson Mandela is a no-brainer. But in a sports movie???
It's much more about the politics of sport than about sports.

Freeman spent years trying to get various Mandela biographies off the ground, but things never came together; eventually, he formed a group of financiers to buy the rights to a non-fiction book about these events and made it into a starring vehicle for himself.

Still, of all the stories there are to tell about Nelson Mandela, is this really the most important or compelling one?

I think it would be a mistake to presume this is the only story to be told about Mandela. There are doubtless more to come.

But the graphic itself really got a chuckle from me and my boys wo;d sent it to me. We're always joking about how Freeman is ubiquitous in films. Even with it's errors, that diagram just shows it beautifully. I've only seen about half of those films, though. Just watched "Evan Almighty" for the first time.

I always like seeing Morgan Freeman - he carries a weighty screen presence. The chart is pretty funny, too.

Well, yes, that's exactly my point. It's not like they hired Freeman to do a series of Mandela pictures. If they were going to make a movie with the no-brainer casting of Morgan Freeman playing Mandela, why would this story be their first choice?

Arrghh, I hate trying to explain an offhand wry observation. It's as annoying as having to explain a joke.

I like Morgan Freeman, but it always feels like he plays about the same role in every movie - the wise old mentor.

His roles in The Dark Knight, Chain Reaction and Wanted would be really high up on that list.

He's a great actor. I just feel he mails in his performance for a paycheck sometimes like other actors (cough Nicholas Cage cough).

I see where you were going. My point was simply that there are plenty of stories and time left for them to be told. Ergo, this oen for me would be about as good as any. The greatest most impacting story doesn't have to be the first. To say that Mandela's life affected all facets of South African society is an understatement
